Bryston

Has anyone heard the newer Bryston speakers? The mini T and model T seem to both be getting some great reviews. Well, the only thing I find bad in reviews on the Mini T is the looks and size for a bookie. I looked for a local dealer but all said they would have to special order them in if I wanted to buy a set. I just want to hear a set LOL.

me too, its always weird when a amplifier maker like Bryston & Pass Labs make speakers. you can't help but wonder what they sound like.

Exactly I can't help but wonder. On a different form (AA) they seem to get glowing reviews as well as on the general web. The big complaint I see is they are more plain looking but sound great and the size of the smaller t. It looks like they have been out for a year ish.

Bryston is on a roll. Their digital products are superb, while their analog still holds their own. As mentioned, they are new to speakers, but as mentioned they are getting great reviews, especially in price/performance. I am sure you can Google it, but, if I remember correctly, they teamed with someone else in creating these speakers.

Axiom I believe but, people are saying they are more smooth and musical vs the same priced Axiom. I called within a 50 mile range and no luck unless i want to pay. Well I can always use audio advisor and just risk the shippjng back.

I am about to pull the trigger on a used set or mini t for 1800. They have been for sale for about a month. Re-sale might be harder if I don't like them but, I am so curious to see what all the fuss is about. I called Audio Advisor and talked to Cory. I told him I am looking for speakers in the 3k range and the first thing he said was the Mini T. Not much to look at but " they are that good".

They would go up against the lsi9, mythos sts, and I would even take them to holm audio and try them against the psb T2.

    Someone talk me down please....?

I would love the model T but, they are out of my price range.

The re-sale is what is making me hesitate right now also.... ?

The Pass Labs speaker sold for over $40K, IIRC and was a superb sounding speaker. Active type speaker, no holds barred, one time thing, etc, etc. For **** and giggles. So just because it's out of their "comfort zone" doesn't mean it will suck. Also made the SR1 in 2009 at $25K/pr. & SR2

I'd love to hear a pair of the Bryston's. Hopefully they don't suck.

I believe the issue people have with the Bryston speaker line, is that they modelled their speakers after the Aziom line, they look the same speaker to speaker but the $$$ difference between them is one the only things that are different..
Whitby Audio down the road for me carries them, I've heard them a few time, not bad at all..
The larger models have options for external crossovers, look pretty impressive.
But like I said they got Axiom to build them and they look very similar.

I'd see if I could give them a listen first if I was interested in a purchase, or just ask if the owner can compare their sound to other speakers.

The Mini A bookshelf model is reviewed in the October edition of Sound & Vision and given high ratings for music. They didn't like the center channel in that line because of its poor integration with the other speakers, which may be a problem down to this being an early step into speaker production.

The A and T lines seem to be well thought out. But, the titanium dome tweeter and aluminum driver cones would give me pause in a purchasing decision unless I could hear them myself first just because I have not liked most metallic drivers I've heard.

The Absolute Sound gave the T line an Editor's Choice Rating saying its tweeter design gives the speakers a nice flat off-axis response providing a wide sweet spot. That may be true, but if the sound is as metallic as some other speakers I've heard I'd pass.

The one I am looking at is the mini T.
Since you mentioned Absolute sound theabsolutesound.com/articles/bryston-mini-t-loudspeaker/

Even Tone gave it good reviews. Actually I cannot find a bad review out there.

I'd forgotten Sound & Vision also reviewed the Mini T system last year. They had a positive review of those also, including saying there's an absence of the sharp/tizzy sound in the high frequencies I dislike with most metal dome tweeters. One thing they did mention that may be a concern is placement away from the front wall a bit to avoid bass loading.

Thanks. I just read it. I am suprised they didn't put the bung into the port if it was too close to the wall. Beyond that, another good review. Unless I change my mind, Monday the seller is actually heading out this direction so I think I might give them a shot.

I almost forgot besides the reviews one of the other thing I was considering the Mini T is the 75 degrees off axis would give me a wider sound or extending beyond the room type sound.

I have been disappointed on a few occasions with something that got great reviews but ultimately when I listened for myself on my rig I came away unimpressed. This has happened for a few pieces of gear and a set of new production tubes.

Sort of the nature of this hobby or anything that is largely subjective to begin with. I will say, it's always best to get "your" ear on said piece (if possible, which can be difficult these days) to be sure. If you can't demo before you buy always have a way out so you can move on with limited exposure so to speak.

    Good luck
