Specifically Canada. In the past I have shied away from shipping to Canada because of a couple previous bad experiences involving long delivery times, surprise fees/taxes, & once having to supply my SSN just to get my stinking package from the carrier. That said one of our fellow Canadian Polkies is interested in the Audioengine N22 I have in the flea market, so I thought I'd give it another try.
From my understanding USPS is the way to go because FedEx & UPS charge fees that USPS doesn't. That said the amp, doesn't fit in a priority flat rate box, so I'll need to put it in my own packaging. Which USPS shipping method will get it there in a reasonable amount of time without the buyer getting shafted on cost, taxes/fees, etc? What paper work am I going to need to fill out?
Thanks.

It's hit and miss. I bought an HK avr long ago paid nothing extra, bought cables and was charged. Bought an amp from Cfrizz I was charged nothing, bought a Rotel amp and was charged about 85$. Doesn't help you I know. if the other party agrees, make sure you write its a used piece and I've asked in the past to undervalue the amount. which is something happens and insurance is involved then you have a problem.

I've used UPS and haven't had a problem. Just fill out the claim form and make sure everything is exact or else it'll get hung up in limbo. Dropping the value is an option but i doubt there is any real difference in cost between a $50 dollar item and $100 in terms of shipping.
I find if you put the word "Cat Bomb" on the side of the box, most people won't damage/steal it. Nobody wants to deal with a cat bomb...Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
While it sometimes looks ridiculously expensive, shipping from US to Canada via air can be cheaper overall. Ground shipping seems to incur really expensive brokerage and then fees to collect brokerage, fees to collect tax, fees... you get the picture. I've also had success using a mailbox service like crossborderpickups.com or vists a mailbox in the US.

Ups is cheaper to ship to canada if the items got some weight. I have found that usps prices have went up.

I ship regularly to Canada using flat rate priority mail. It's very inexpensive and quick. I've never had an issue.

You won't get hit with anything, it's the receiving party.
Avoid UPS as they are the most expensive for both parties.
FedEx isn't bad if you have an account. You will have to fill out some paperwork, so have all the buyers info including phone number.
Shipping USPS, Priority is really your only choice. Again, you will have to fill out paperwork. One main advantage, there are no brokerage fees for the buyer.
Do not declare a lesser value as Canadian customs is on to that stuff. It could delay delivery as you might have to supply a lot more info to them and if there is a damage claim, you are screwed.

What value would I assign to it? New retail cost or selling price?

The selling price and in case you are asked, have some form of proof.
