New amp recommendation

After a few months, I finally was able to purchase a pair of A7's for a movie/tv room that I will have. It will be mostly movies and tv watching with some music listening thrown in here and there. I plan on getting the center to match csia6 within the next month. I am probably going to use some pioneer bookies for the rears for now and a polk sub that I have. I will be running these off a Yamaha rx-a1040 with plans on getting a amp in the near future. Looking on Craigslist, someone is selling a Adcom gfa-555 original series 1 and gfa-545 together for $400. I was thinking of seeing if he will seperate and sell the 555. Would this power these speakers well, reading reviews seems like the better would be the series 2. Is there something else I should look at that would work better? Is a 2 channel enough or should I look at a 3 -5 channel amp? I would like to stay under $1000. Any advice would be appreciated. I can also wait and save some more if need be to get something better.

Keep an eye out for B&K or Parasound.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Thanks for the responses. I will look into b&k and parasound amps. Would a 2 channel amp be sufficient and just run the center off the receiver or would I benefit getting a 3 channel amp?

That's your call. Three channel would give you more "balanced" power up front. But you can just pump the two towers only, if you wish.
The problem with amps if NEW vs. USED is $$$$ spent. That original Adcom is actually preferred by some over the II series because it deviates the least from Nelson Pass's design. They can also be had for $300 or so (sometimes less). And 200 watts x 2 is a good amount of power for your towers. The B&K and Parasound will give you a "warmer" presentation with that Yamaha as a pre-amp, though! And you should also think "used" there unless you want to spend over 1-2,000?
But do get your ears on some of these if you can!Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

2 channel amp should be fine. Let the Yamaha handle the rest.

Sunfire amps, nice and warm with plenty of power for HT, plus the go for around $650.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will definitely look into these options when I am ready. On a side note, I couldn't wait until next month when we move to open the speakers so I set them up temporarily to the receiver with cheap speaker wire. No sub or center yet, ran ypao through the receiver and I was impressed with the sound. Could hear decent bass and good detail that I didn't get from the old system I used to have. Can only imagine how much better these are going to get once everything is in place. Very excited to see this come into place.
