Monitor 7b woofer pop

Hi my name is Bob and I am new here. I bought a
Pair of Monitor 7b's and I'm using a Marantz reciever and the woofers are popping. The receiver is rated
at 52 watts. Is this a common issue.

How loud do you have it turned up if the volume dial is a clock? Past 11 o'clock?

How much is the bass turned up in the tone controls?

Does it have a "loudness" button and are you using it?

  • Yes. Past 11 bass maxed and loudness on.

  • Sorry I'm pretty new at Vintage audio. I still expect all speakers to sound like a subwoofer. The 7b's do sound very awesome.

    Benefit of the doubt...

Get a subwoofer with high level inputs, bypass tone controls, turn off the loudness switch, and keep the volume below 11 o'clock.

Sounds like you need a pair of Cerwin Vegas. That is if you like it loud and a over emphasis on the Bass, or turn it down a bit and ease off the tone controls hopefully you haven't done any damage.

Even Cerwin Vegas won't give him justice on 52watt Marantz...somethings going to blow

  • Sorry about that Bob, but I think you might have to learn the hard way.
  • Blown equipment and ear drums so be it, I am not impressed.

Even if it is still able to output 52 actual watts in it's twilight years you may be over-driving/clipping it, causing it to loose any damping that it has at normal volumes and with the bass set for a more natural sound
