Care to fill in the picture a bit?
What are you looking to do? What other gear are you going to be using it with? Is cost a consideration? Have you located acceptable specimens?"Conservative Libertarians love the country, progressive leftists love the government." - Andrew Wilkow

Thanks for your response daddyjt. I'm currently running a Yamaha RX A840 receiver as my main piece. I have a Yamaha M-80 driving a set of Polk SDA 1c's as my front mains and I have 2 H/K Citation 22's driving a set of Polk monitor10a's and a set of SDA CRS's . I'm also currently using a pair of Advent 3's as my center channel. They are being powered by the receivers power. This is all set up in my home theater setup. But I also listen in a two channel mode as well.I guess I'm trying to determine what type of preamp would be best for my application.

I did mean a ca1000 though.

Are you looking to peel-off a pair of your speakers and one of your amps from the HT setup, and create a dedicated 2ch setup?
Inserting a preamp between your receiver and your current main channel amp is not a particularly favorable option - You're adding something in the signal chain that will not be adding anything of value. Even assuming either of those three preamp options has better sonic characteristics (not a given) than your current AVR - Any sound degradation/artifacts that the AVR imparts will still be present after passing through your new preamp...."Conservative Libertarians love the country, progressive leftists love the government." - Andrew Wilkow

Thanks for your input . My receiver doesn't have a phono stage built in it. And I've been thinking about adding the preamp for that purpose. Although I don't have tons of vinyl I do have some. Really I listen to air play or my iPod's . Just want to listen to some non compressed music.Im really happy with my sound quality that I currently have. So maybe just a phono amp would be best. Thanks again for your input.

Yes - snag a decent phono stage for around $200, and save a TON of hassle!"Conservative Libertarians love the country, progressive leftists love the government." - Andrew Wilkow
