I will elaborate more on the story once I have this unit sent back, and my Credit Card charged back..

But when I asked about this POS Power Cord he stated he had been using it for the last five years with no issues... REALLY???

I had a Leviton 20 amp outlet in my garage that has done that to two power cables (not audio). I thought they were cheap cords, but then noticed green ooze coming out of the wall plate itself with nothing attached. Apparently the moisture from heating the garage some days in the winter was causing the outlet to corrode. Oddly the other 8 identical outlets in the garage have never done this.

Everything in that outlet always worked fine, not sure why you think he would have had issues. Although I never would have sent that cable to someone who purchased an item.

Not saying he would have issues, but I for one would never use that with my gear, and as you said, I would have never sent it with any gear I sold.. Hell I wouldn't even keep it, it would be in the trash..

I wonder why your outlet did that? I have never seen an outlet do that..

There are other issues here with the unit, I have pictures, and I will post later once the situation is taken care of...

I agree, I wouldn't use it. As far as the outlet, copper exposed to moisture will eventually turn green, and electricity flowing through will cause it to corrode faster. An electrician friend told me this was common in garage and outdoor outlets where moisture is unavoidable.

His guess as to why none of the other outlets have done it, is because I hardly ever use them. This one is on my workbench, and is used often. I have replaced it, but figure in another 5-6 years will have to do so again.

Sorry to hear, Larry. Just curious, in a transaction like this, is it the buyers responsibility to cover shipping costs still, or do they get nicked on shipping costs both ways?

They get nicked one way. I filed a dispute through PayPal. It took about 2 months to get my money back. Buyer gets their item back but lose the initial ship cost. Unfortunately I was nicked for return shipping. It's a pretty crappy deal.

Was the use of a corroded copper plug likely to have caused damage to the preamp itself ? If not, isn't voiding the whole sale over it kinda' like throwing the baby out with the bath water ? :/

He is taking it back, and I'm sure I will lose the shipping cost, but he really has no choice as my bank is hitting him with the charge back, and you know PayPal isn't going to lose that money..

PayPal is great to use but use your Credit Card, you just gave yourself that extra protection..

  • I'm sorry you have this hassle.

I've disputed two or three items that I purchased off eBay, and I've never had to pay shipping either way. However, those instances were at least a couple of years ago, and the items were clearly "not as described."

Did the seller accurately describe the item?
Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.

Exercise Room, Innuos Streamer via Cat 6 cable connection to PS Audio PerfectWave MkII DAC w/Bridge II, AQ King Cobra RCAs to Perreaux PMF3150 amp (fully restored and upgraded by Jeffrey Jackson, Precision Audio Labs), Supra Rondo 4x2.5 Speaker Cables to SDA 1Cs (Vr3 Mods Xovers and other mods.), Dreadnaught with Supra Rondo 4x2.5 interconnect cables by Vr3 Mods. Power for each component from dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel, except Innuos Statement powered from Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One.

When I had to return an item purchased on eBay PayPal emailed a shipping label to me. So, with the refund I had zero out of pocket.
