Hi Gang,

Well after going crazy, I was finally able to locate and purchase one of these units. First of all I've got to say that finding this thing is like the search for the holy grail.

The First Day:

The build quality of the unit is really nice. It weighs in a hefty 30 lbs. and is a marvel to look at as well as operate. Installation was fairly easy. The first thing I did was pop in some HDCD's, because the DVD-A's and SACD'S I ordered from Amazon have not arrived yet. Besides, most of my friends borrow my CD's and never have much to offer me. However, I was astounded by the sound that came out of my LSI-15's with just the HDCD's. In one word it was "LUSH". The bass really came alive, midrange great, a nice warmth. I was really surprised. Now I say to myself if it sounds this good, what is it going to sound like with the SACD'S and DVD-A's? I'm really excited about rediscovering my CD collection (1,000CD's) and just doing some listening. Needless to say I am psyched! The video portion was really nice too. Even though I only have a Sony Wega XBR 450, I have the sudden urge to run out and get a plasma or lcd display!! I'm out of control here. I watched the movie "Cold Creek Manor" last night, which isn't really a benchmark type dvd. However, I found the sound to be fuller and I was hearing more information in the rears than I ever had. This was encouraging also.

I had no trouble with operation of the unit. No lock ups, and I thought the remote was pretty peppy compared to my old Pioneer DVD player/burner.

Most of this listening was with the factory defaults. I have to tweak things. And my god, can you tweak things with this unit!! I haven't even set up the SACD yet. I'll need some help with that. Dr. Spec where are you? Can I e-mail you specific questions??

I will update in the future when I have everything tweaked, etc. So far, this unit is a keeper for me. Hey perhaps one of those Underwood mods in the future.

Sorry gang, I've really lost it!!

    Hi All,

Well I've finally got my Denon all set up to my liking, got some SACD's and DVD-A's and am just sitting, relaxing, having some wine and enjoying the unit. So far I prefer the sound of the SACD's over the DVD-A's. They seem fuller, although I realize that can depend upon the recording, etc. I also set up the digital portion of the player with DVD coax instead of optical cable. I have noticed that the change in cable makes the player sound warmer. I am especially enjoying the audio portion of this player. Really nice sound. Love two channel analog stuff, very revealing and clean. Although I'm not a real constant movie watcher, I can honestly say I have been enjoying the video side of this machine too.

Obviously I'm having a blast here and my LSI'15's never sounded so good!!

I have re-enabled my PM and email functions in my profile. Contact me anytime. I have the 2900 but I'll help where ever I can. I'm glad the SQ is superb; I had heard reports from owners reflecting the same.

Using good cables for SACD and DVD-A is paramount with a player of that caliber. I can recommend the SC-A2 highly, and check the cable shoot-out threads for other fine choices.

Also, if you get an HDTV, I got a huge difference in PQ by switching to a pro-grade component video cable. The Monster Video2 was much inferior in comparison.

I like digital coax for DVD-V too, mostly for convenience. But I recommend using the external outputs for all music (including 2 channel) to retain the sonic characteristics of the cable you select for hi rez.
