For the long weekend I took Friday off, so I turned the stereo on Thursday night for my first weekend listening session. Since the weather has been great this week, I have been able to seal up the house to not annoy the neighbors, and not have to run the AC. Since I am saving that electricity, I have kept the amps on.

Now 48 hours later on Saturday night I am sitting here amazed at how good this stereo is now sounding. It has been a while since I let the amps warm up this long. If I didn't know better I would think I am at Magico listening to the S7.


I sometimes feel a little sorry for those who can't hear the difference between cold and warm amps, cables, and other items that elevate a stereo onto a different level. Of course, some of them appear to be grumpy old men who hate everything, so I don't feel sorry for them. :)

    I have no issue with amps warming up. I do have an issue with it taking several days. I would have aged wasting my days waiting for amps to warm up, so I will be grumpy as hell too. Haha

    I don't have as much time to listen through speakers, but I do this weekend, and the McCormack has been on for three days straight.
    Barr Brothers' "Sleeping Operator" is like having the band in the room right now.
    As for beer, I just put 5 different IPAs in the cooler under 20 pounds of ice.... too hot to bike today, so music, beer, and baseball.

    I always give my system in the "Exercise Area" an hour or so to warm up before my daily physical therapy sessions. I also notice that after an hour of PT, there generally seems to be a marked improvement in SQ, which I assume comes from everything getting warmed up.

    Upstairs in the "Family Room" system I tend to start listening immediately, and I also notice a marked improvement in SQ after an hour or, better yet, two hours of warm up time.

    When we travel, because we get a lot of lightning strikes here, I always fully disconnect everything in both systems. When we return, it takes a minimum of three-four hours for everything to get back into the "groove."

    It's definitely a nuisance, but I don't have an acceptable alternative.

    I definitely notice after several hours or more of listening things start to sound better and better. I don't use tubes but ss. And I swear it just gets better with time. Or maybe I've passed into the perfect time of night for listening.

    The tubes and the single ended Class A amp sound their best after they have been powered on for a few hours. Many times in the Winter the amp is on 24/7
