Receiver for RTI A5's

Howdy,

I am an audio noob. I am going about building my very first system.

I stumbled upon an awesome deal for RTI A5's so i have a pair now. I have read a lot that it should be supplemented with a sub, which i will acquire later.

I most likely will remain in 2.1 or 3.1 system.

I will use it for 60% music and 40% Movies. 99% of my content comes from streaming, which i plan to do over a Apple TV or Roku.

I am looking for a Low-End receiver, that would adequately power the 2.1/3.1 system.

I really liked the Yamaha RX-v379, would do you guys think about it? Or do you have better suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

Do you want "good" sound or "adequate" sound ? If adequate is your goal, then that Yamaha should serve it's purpose.

The lower end Yamaha's though have a more bright sound to them. If you want better sound, since you'll be 60% music, you have to move off the entry level receiver thinking. The Yamaha Advantage series is a big step up for musical sound in a receiver over their entry level models.

The pioneer SC versions, HK, also have good sound for receivers. You'll need a decent sub too with those. Something from SVS or HSU, Polks micro pro subs would work also.

Get yourself some decent cables too if you don't already. Kimber 4 series should suffice, lots of other choices. Buy used and save a ton of dough.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
    lsi 9's

Too bad you're not near me I trying to sell a HK335 for cheap. But as Tony pointed out, you're better off buying a bit better and more than you currently need to future proof yourself and to avoid the what ifs.

A4L. Good prices and they stand behind their gear.

I would suggest this one. RTI A5s, CSI A4 ( or 6), and still have enough power for surrounds in the future, should you go that route.
  • Thank you for all the great advice. I am a little surprised how unanimous it is.

I will listen to you guys and increase my budget a little. I looked around a little i could get the Yamaha RX-A740, Pioneer SC-2024-K or the Onk TX-NR646 for about the same price.

I know its is not the top notch stuff still, but my budget is limited for now. Which one of the three would you recommend?

All would work pretty well with the A5's. I'd probably go with Yamaha of the 3

Hey rpf65, Thanks! I like the yamaha more too. Can you elaborate your reasons?

Also, i looked further, Your original recommendation Onkyo TX-NR737 is also in the same price range. What would be your recommendation now?

Both are good mid-level AVRs. The biggest advantage to the Onkyo is that it is HDCP 2.2 capable, the Yammy isn't. May be something you should consider, to me, not a deal breaker.

The Yammy has a good, and proven calibration program(YPAO). These guys pioneered height speakers. The Onk uses AccuEQ. In house design, and it's first generation. Not very much info available on this room correction algorithm. I'll give that advantage to Yamaha.

Tough call between those 2. Not to worried about 4k, or UHD for the more correct term, right now. In a few years could be good to have. Probably lean Yamaha for YPAO.
