Will never forget the night he came here to a small club back in Feb. of 84. He was promoting his Texas Flood album. I got there 2 hrs. early so I could get a front row seat. Hearing him warm up sent chills up my spine. I left halfway through his last tune "Lenny". We ran out to his bus to wait for him, got his autograph and he invited me and my girlfriend onto his bus for a beer. Shame on me for drinking way too much that night, I don't remember much about it. I just remember he acted very humble and gave a firm handshake,he had huge hands. {I thought I read somewhere that he used like 13's or 14's for strings ]
Listening to a performance like that in a small club is a million times better than one in a large auditorium. He is without a doubt responsible for bringing the blues more mainstream in the late 20th century. I'm probably the only 50 yr. old guy here who isn't a fan of rock n roll. My first album I got was in the 3rd grade, Son Seals Blues Band. I never looked back, real blues will always be #1 for me, of course I used to play in a Blues band. -
Great story @charley95 , wish I were so lucky. I do love his music.Pio Elete Pro 520

I worked with his uncle in Dallas and he knew I was a fan of music. One day in '81 he called me down to his office and SRV was in for a quick visit. We chatted for a bit and Stevie mentioned he was releasing an LP soon with his new group Double Trouble. A very humble, yet somewhat shy individual back then. I attended his graveside rites - a very emotional day in my life.[

My buddy worked for Alpine Valley and had tickets for the show on the night he died. It was a heck of a bill, four tops notch stars IIRC, seems like Eric Clapton and Robert Cray were two although that was a long time ago so I may be remembered it incorrectly. Anyway, I was just there for a show not long before that, was extremely busy that summer, so I cancelled at the last minute and another friend took my place. Very much regretted that decision. Was one of the first guys to REALLY cover Hendrix. RIP

Local radio station host told a great story yesterday. Seems as though he was in a band in the early 70's and SRV tried out for the band, but didn't make the cut. Stevie Ray was playing his brand of music and they just didn't get it. They were wanting some Stones, Beattles, Yardbirds, but SRV couldn't deliver. Very funny story as the host was very self deprecating in retelling the story. Making it even funnier is the fact that years later after SRV had made it big, the host had a chance to talk to him and ask him if he remembered the failed tryout and SRV did indeed remember.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden

Much like Jimi , he left us too soon. I saw SRV back in the Autumn of '83 when he opened for The Moody Blues in The Summit, great show all around! Can't believe it's been 25 yrs. since his passing. R.I.P. SRV.

Ran across this and thought I would share. It is long but if you are a fan it is interesting.
