Why do we have "The Wall" for Messaging? Not same as Private Messaging

Anyone know what "the wall" messaging feature is for? Does anyone actually like it, or even mean to use it?

Private Message does seem clunky to access. I think messaging is misleading for some, and it seems a lot of messages are mistakenly posted publicly on a member's "the wall" when the users really mean to send a PM.

I've found that to PM another member, I have to go into my own messages, click New Message, and then type that member's name, etc., etc. In the early days of Vanilla, I found that if I tried to Message that member from his/her profile, it's a public post on the wall, not a PM.

Is there an easier way to PM?
Does anyone use Wall/Public Messaging?

agree 100 percent, I know everyone is supposed to be tech savvy, and old guys like me are not concerning anyone in the tech industry but damn.

I see private info, phone no.s addresses delivery dates for goods shipped on walls all the time, obviously many people are having trouble accomplishing a very rudimentary task that should be so simple even an old caveman like me should easily spot a button to send a pm and have it actually be a PRIVATE message.

I always go to that persons name & open theirs up (so you see post count & other features) & i go to 'message' & then with a title i send it. I to also have sent message to a board & try not to do that. I often wondered if the person was notified when that happens-as i only did it once when the 'switch over to Vanilla happened' not really a big issue once i saw what i did

does that do a PM, or post to their wall? when I did it that way in the past, it would post to their wall.

Not when i do it-at top right-i send massage with TITLE & as far as i know it goes PM only. I think if posting on board it may not show 'title'. I have looked before awhile back & it did not. I use a iphone,so im not sure what it looks like otherwise.

I've never actually tried post to a user's wall until now in this testing, and I think that's probably done through Add Comment.

I wonder if it's always a PM if you click Message.
Did it always work this way? I swear there were times when I've tried to Message a member and it's posted to their profile wall.
