Ebay rips off customers with final value fee scam.

Well we all know Ihave shipping issues from time to time but after Jesse ( F1nut ) asked that Ipull back from posting I respectfully agreed to do so. This thread is not about the shipping issues and hopefully Polk allows this discussion to remain open as they do a large volume of sales over there.

I want to talk about the final value fees, you sell an item and pay a percetage as you all know but things are different now. I am now finding myself paying over $400 for nothing and here is what has happened and how it may affect you too if selling over there.

Two items that I sold had a problem and one was my fault. I sold a pair of cables and mixed the number up with an older model. I informed my buyer the day after shipping and he said it was unacceptable and said he wanted to return them and I agreed regardless of the facts. He gets the item and filed a paypal claim.

On the same day I get another return request for a Martin Logan speaker that Isold just over a month prior. Now I made a video of the speaker working andit was in the factory packaging with insurance so I should have been good. So how do loose all this money and whats the scam, I will tell you.

Because the guy received the cables andhe went straight to paypal then Ebay said they will still be charging me final value fees for selling. With the speaker because they buyer never filed a claim in the 30 day? period they will still be charging me for selling that too. Even though I agree to refund buyers if they decide that they are too lazy to put in a return I get landed with fees for a sale or if they just go through paypal and get their money back I end up paying out of my pocket to ebay.

Does this seem like a dodgy deal to anyone? I dont think its fair and there should be some change to the return policy.

Again this is not about the actual items or my history as I have left out those details. Iam still keeping a lid on all the juicy stories such as buyers claiming Isold them a fake pair of Ethos that Ibought from an authorized outlet, that was crazy!

Yes unless something has changed since eBay and PayPal split, you will get the final value fees back as well. Keep us posted!

I don't sell anything on eBay anymore, haven't in a very long time, their fees are just outrageous anymore, not worth it IMO..

I'm guessing legit businesses might have it a little different then the common folk. I still shop and buy on eBay, but that's it...

Sorry to hear this PFB. Always sucks when you lose 4 bones for nothing. Don't know if rules have changed with them or not.

On the flip side, I'd imagine the items were fairly expensive and if placed on a no fee used gear site, you might have had to discount those items 4 bones anyway.....at least. Ebay may look at it as still providing the service, thus the fee.

I'm a Top Rated Power Seller on eBay, having maintained a 100% Positive Feedback Rating for over 13 years. My side business is conducted through them, and, to be candid, I do very well.

I have zero issues with how they conduct their business. The fees are reasonable considering the massive amount of people my products are available to.

Agree 100 percent. It is a huge market place and their business rules are clear.

This isn't adding up. If the transaction (sale AND refund) were conducted above board and through EBay's channels, then you will receive your refunded seller fees - period. If however, you circumvented EBay's procedures, then you are on your own.

I have read your post 3 times and I must need a PFB decoder ring, because I can't follow it. I bet poor communication has always been a issue with each and every one of your sales.

If you could actually write so someone can understand and follow your points, you might get more sympathy, if not that, atleast some helpful advice.

I have nothing for you, because I have no idea what your issue is based on the poor explanation in your post.

I guess my advice is try to be a more effective communicator. It might solve a lot of your issues.

Aside from taking pot shots at me and praising ebay rates or ones own performance do you guys not see the bigger picture?

H9 communication is not my issue as with the cables I sold the guy when straight to paypal 4 days after the sale. The buyer got refunded and ebay charged me final value fees based on the buyers actions. It was a forced refund as paypal admitted and were sympathetic about.

The other sale of the Martin Logan speaker is the most concerning and is something that will affect anyone no matter what. Because this buyer received an item and does not bother to claim it as damaged within the small return item window paypal refunds the transaction but ebay does not. Anything you sell will result in final value fees being taken and not credited back because ebay and paypal are now supposed different companys.

John your post has nothing to do with any of the points brought up. I am fully aware of a simple refund procedure and have canceled many a sale in a similar fashion. Read my last post over?

So what do the representatives of Ebay have to say about this? When following the guidelines and communicating in a timely, effective manner, I have never had an issue with Ebay or Paypal.

Somehow I feel, based on your communication skills, or lack of some key information, we are not getting the full picture. Either that, or you have the worst streak of luck I have ever seen.

It's fine to air out your frustrations here, but we can't answer nor rectify the issue. That comes from the parties involved.

So I hope you are in vigorous talks with the buyers, Paypal and Ebay. I hope ypu get it figured out.

I know ebay sends a monthly statement. Perhaps they will reconcile all these fee issues at the end of the cycle and you will end up with a credit. I don't know, that's why you need to be in contact with the parties involved. Or re-read the policies of doing business on the website.

Have you read the new Paypal policies in regards to their split with Ebay? It would seem prudent to know if anything has changed since the split. I use Paypal everywhere outside Ebay to pay for things. Never once had an issue.

    Really.

Everything I stated is on point and factual. And my assumptions are valid. I assume you are in talks with all parties. You never said if you were or not?

You don't relay what ebay or paypal has said to you in the dialog you opened with then about your issue. I assume you have opened a dialog with the powers that be.

I assume you read all the appropriate policies and can point to where in the policy you were wronged.

Perhaps you can address all the points I've made, that way we can better understand the entire picture, not just your haphazardly written, one sided account.

The title of your thread is extremely inflammatory. I'd hoped to see some facts that back it up. So far, none
