Tubes and protection mode on amp

Can a bad tube cause an amplifier to go into protection mode?The tubes are in a Dared preamp I'm using.

Not yet,I had just swapped out the tubes from the stock ones.I have used these tubes before just last week.The dared has had a hum in it since I got it so I thought I would try the stock ones in it.They worked fine but when I got home today I switched back to the Brimar an Sylvania tubes and it played for a minute then went in to protection mode.

I ruled out the amp,put it in a different system and it is fine.Checked all my connections and found nothing strange.

Is the Dared exhibiting a high level of output sensitivity?

It has always seemed to need to be turned up very little for listening,at about nine o'clock it can run you out of the room.Also if you tap on the base you can hear it thru the speakers.I swapped the tubes and nothing changed.I heard alot of static and the some cracking on the right speaker when the amp went into protection.

No warranty,I noticed the right tube flashes at the bottom on start up.I pulled the cover and didn't see any problem area but I haven't looked at the bottom of the board.Are there any measurements I can take with a dvm to check it out?I never realized the difference tubes make in the system.This is my first tube piece.

I just picked up a couple of spare amps so I will give that a shot.I didn't want to take a chance with the McCormack I have so I just got a Parasound 1000 and a 750 and will use one of them with a spare set of speakers in the garage for testing

Tried it on different amp,right channel is gone.The tube lights up but no sound.Is there someone who repairs these?

I just got the Dared back from someone I found on Craigslist locally.I have never heard this sound cleaner.He said he found some cracked joints around the tube sockets.The sockets were also loose so he tightened those and said he noticed the heaters were a bit noisy so he added a capacitor in it to quiet it down.

I had talked to him earlier about working on an Adcom I had but sold it before I needed the work.I think I have found me a go to guy here for repairs in the future. He seems to know how to work on all the old and new equipment and his prices are reasonable. It is good to have tubes back in the system!

His name is Guy.He is an old tech from California and he is laid back and easy to work with.It was just a 3 day turn around and great communication.He does tubes and solid state.

Yes Dallas area. I have been to his place and he is all about audio it seems.He reminds me of my older brother who is also about audio and it makes me feel at home.
