Connecting my turntable to the Omni SB1 speaker

I'm new to this forum, and I just installed the Omni SB1 wireless speaker system. I have a Sony PS-LX250H turntable that I'd like to use with the system. When I plug the turntable directly into the AUX input on the SB1 I get nothing. I've tried it with the turntable's EQ switch in both the "on" & "off" position - still nothing. I tried attaching an ART DJ PRE II phono preamp between the turntable and the SB1 - still nothing. As a last attempt, I hooked up the turntable to my old receiver's phono inputs, and connected that to my SB1 AUX - it worked! But, there is a noticeable hum when the music isn't playing, and this solution is not very elegant. Does anybody out there have any suggestions as to how to make this work without using my huge, power hungry receiver that I don't need for anything else?
Thanks in advance

Hello,
Welcome to Polk's forum.
The SB1 has 1 x 1/8” mini analogue auxiliary input….you'll need a phono pre-amp (with RIAA equalization) and an adapter cable with 2 x RCA jacks to 1 x 1/8” mini stereo connection.
I'm not sure why the ART phono preamp didn't work, maybe contact them for assistance to see if there's a setting that needs adjusting? Try, as a test, using the Art preamp into the old receiver's auxiliary input and listen with headphones via the receiver?

does that turntable have a phono pre built into it? if it does make sure it is off, and then connect it to the external phono, might be a damaged phono section on the turntable and is creating interference.
might be worth to check. I had a similar thing happen to me with a Marantz turntable and it was exactly what I am telling you.
good luck,

As for your hum, try this ground loop isolator.

I had a bad hum that was only fixed by better phono cables between my TT and Phono amp and not a regular analog cable.2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge
