I was wondering why I kept seeing warnings about Dish Network on my DirectTV system.
EchoStar ditches Viacom's channels -

Do a little reading at WWW.DBSTALK.COM
There's more to it than just E* taking viacom channels down. Viacom is askik for upwards of $350 Million from E* and the CEO (Charlie Ergen) of E*is not willing to shell out that kind of coin. It's been going on for quite some time and the negotiations have not been going well at all. I really think that Charlie is doing the right thing, Viacom is really out in left field on this one. -

The Viacom stations are still up on DTV, but it could be a matter of time before it happens there too. Keep in mind that what's being "done" is not really E*'s fault, it's a matter of a contract expiring and Viacom wanting a great deal of money to allow E* to continue transmission. E* is unwilling to pay the HUGE increase in fees. Ther are some people that feel Viacom is being unreasonable, others think E* is cheap. $350 million is a boat load of money to shell out, and guess who ends up paying for it. This could just as easily happen to DTV or any of the CATV providers out there.

this really is terrible.. not that I watch MTV or VH1 or any of the other Viacom channels that much.. but it threatens (us being able to watch) the NCAA playoffs.. and that really bites IMHOPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Man, that **** BLOWS! I have already signed up for dish network. It dosen't seem that too many channels I'd be interested in would be affected, but WTF?
I wonder if they are going to adjust the price accordingly? -

They are going to adjust the price, but not accordingly...you'll get back an extra dollar a month...
problem for me is that about half of my TV watching is on CBS, to which I will no longer have access...they should give me back at least 50% of my payment...and even that won't work becuase it still doesn't get me CBS... -
so how does this affect CBS progamming? i hear it's affecting like the top 10 or 15 TV markets.. they can't get CBS programming on thier Dish network.
Can you pull CBS off your over the air local station? I do in HDTV, it looks great. full 1080iPolkFest 2012, who's going>?

try voom i am a cable person as many tv as i have at no extra charge.

That's the only saving grace, I am getting a new tv w/ a HD tuner so I can pull in the OTA HD broadcasts if I want. I have to get a decent HD antenna, though. That was the plan from jump, I just have this thing about paying fo stuff that is free.

The only CBS stations that will not be on the air are owned and operated (O&O) by Viacom.
