Will RTIA7 midrange drivers fit the RTIA5?

Hello! I own a pair of RTIA5 loudspeakers and one of the 6 1/2" drivers is damaged. The speakers are out of warranty and the authorized dealer is charging me US$350 for a replacement. I think it's very expensive!

I can buy a brand new 6 1/2" driver midrange for the RTIA7, from a importer and it would cost me around US$125, already with shipping fees and taxes and I know how to change them. My only doubt if it's the same driver.

Thanks!

Have you called Polk customer service? They probably stock them and for a hellava lot less $$. Mention you're a forum member for a discount and free shipping.

    Hello Ken,

I forgot to mention, I'm from Brazil! The polk main distributor here is a company called Disac, and they only sell parts through the authorized dealers/service stations and the final price for the customer is $350.

$350.00!?! Damn, I hope they at least give you a reach around.

I think they are the same, but suggest sending Polk an email to confirm.

Thank you all for your advice!

Nbrowser, you'll be a life saver! I have already taken the driver out and all I can see are two numbers:

    RD6547-1
    100924

Ps. A pair of RTiA7's costs around U$2000, if paid in cash! It's tough to get good stuff here in Brazil. We joke about it, saying that everytime you buy anything, you're buying one for you and one for our corrupted president.

    Thanks!

    Hello!

    Nbrowser,

    Thanks anyway! It's almost a match! =)

Dksip, here we've got a main distributor, wich imports directly from polk and send them to the dealers.

I'll look for another dealer, we have two more here in Rio de Janeiro... But I belive their prices won't be any different.

I'll contact Polk audio directly and ask if they can send me a spare, but I remember reading somewhere they don't ship parts overseas directly to the end user.

That is correct, not even to Canada.

    Polk's shipping policies are tough!

I've sent an email to the polk's technical staff asking if the 6 1/2" drivers from RTiA5 and A7 are interchangeable, even with different part numbers.

They look just the same! Lol! And even their description on each speaker page is the same!

    Hope isn't lost.... yet!
