polyfill in SDA/SRS

Just finished sealing the inside cabinets on my SDA/SRS speakers with power grab and installing blackhole 5 strips to the inside of the cabinets. Getting ready to reinstall polyfill and was wondering if the material should go behind the tweeters or only behind MW drivers area. Also should I fold polyfill and just push in leaving openings on the sides,top and bottoms or try and seal behind MW area so there is no openings or gaps rather a tight seal. I question this because I feel this can alter bass response depending on install. I did keep polyfill away from passive area so you know in advance. Thank you again for all the help I receive.

    @stoogefan00,

    When I first opened up my SDA SRS1.2s, the polyfill in each speaker was rolled up in an elongated cylinder-like form and "stuffed" in the center of the cabinet behind the tweeters. The "cylinders" extended from the top of the cabinet interior to just above the top of the opening for the crossovers.

    Obviously, there was no polyfill in the cavities behind the passive radiators (however, in my case, somebody had installed egg-crate foam in the cavities behind the passive radiators.

    The speakers had been opened up before. Therefore, I cannot infer that the way the polyfill was installed in my speakers was the stock configuration.

    As long as no polyfill is installed below the crossover openings, I do not believe it will affect bass performance.

    However, there are others on this Forum with much more experience with this than I have, and I hope they will chime in to ensure you get the best advice you can.

  • I believe the 1.2s have a different internal bracing than on my SDA/SRS which would not allow me to put the material in the center behind the tweeters. At this time I am going back searching previous post about polyfill and getting pics of how others on the forum have installed it. Thank you for your response on this matter and have a great evening.

    stoogefan00, it should rolled up and stuffed in with no gaps at the top or sides. I don't recall if any is behind the tweeters in yours, if you can't get any in there I don't worry about it.

    That is the correct installation in the TL models.

  • Thanks so much F1nut. That is how I did it and wanted to make sure before I sealed everything back up.
