Oppo BDP-83 Audio Issues

Had a strange issue with our Oppo yesterday evening when playing a blu-ray... The Audio was ALL messed up. Music and sound effects were loud and clear (although sometimes they would fade in and out a bit), but the vocal audio was non-existent (well, you could VERY faintly hear them in the speakers).
I thought this might have been due to an audio setting change I have been making daily. Long story short... we're doing Insanity (that's another topic!) and in order to hear the music that goes along with the workout, I have to hit the audio button on the remote and change it to 2.1 or 1.1 (I think... whatever isn't the 'Dolby 5.1' choice). Then, the music plays fine while working out to the DVD.
So, my first solution was to make sure I set it back to the 'dolby' choice. Still no dice. Called Oppo (they were great, BTW) and after doing some test tones, we realized that the center channel was getting no signal. At that point, I felt it wasn't right to waste any more of the Oppo rep's time, so we ended the call. I thought, CR@P, my receiver or amp has a bad channel. Luckily, the speaker wire just came out at the speaker. Got it reconnected and tried a blu-ray. It was a little better, but some of the voices in the movie had a horrible echo. There was no consistency... There'd be an echo at times, it'd be fine at times, and the voices would be completely muted at times. After about 10 minutes, and trying some things in the setup, the voices seemed to come back and all seemed normal. We watched an entire movie after that without any issues. After the movie, I worked out, and changed the setting for the Insanity DVD and all worked fine.
Everything seems fine now, but is scares me that I still don't know why it happened, or what I did to fix it! Is it possible that the lack of connection of the center channel caused this audio issue to 'linger' for around 10 minutes?? It was just odd that reconnecting the speaker didn't instantly resolve the issue. Wondering if this might be an indication of a bigger problem starting. I've been told this model had issues with the optical drive...
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Are you using an optical cable or hdmi for the audio? Sometimes they can cause problems with a bad connection , but with the hdmi, it's usually noticed with symptoms like a bad handshake or thin green lines on the screen (at least I've seen that on my set).

I'm using HDMI. So far, no subsequent issues... Worked fine last evening with a dvd and then a blu-ray...
