I drive an Olds alero, and was wondering which would sound better for the front speakers. I was gonna use the mmc460s in the stock 4x6 locations, but now im thinking about using 5.25 rounds with a metra speaker brackets. Would it be better to go with the ex3550 component system, or should i get the 5.25 momo mmc525 coaxials? if i get the coaxials, i have a set of ex2500 tweeters to go in the a-pillar. or should i just use the 4x6s with the ex2500 tweets? I do believe the rounds would give better mid-bass and lower freq response, correct? these will end up running off an amp. im planning on having the ex369 6x9s in the rear deck. Thanks for any help.

You are correct sir in assuming a round speaker will sound better than an oval one. A round speaker is more rigid than an oval one and thus distorts and colors the music less.

Its a shame Polk doesnt make 5 1/4 components. Im sure they will in the future but that doesnt help you out right now. Components will be the best way to go because you will get the full benefit of Polks wonderful tweeters. If you go with coaxials you wont be doing wrong by any means its just that highs are extremely directional and dont transfer well off axis. You can still hear them just not as well. Plus you will hear highs mostly from the passenger tweeter since its pointed at you more and that will shift your stage to the right which can be annoying. However I do believe the Momo 5.25 has a swivel tweeter so you can aim it better and that will help a lot.

Bottom line: go with the Momo 5.25. In fact I would suggest going with Momo all around. The Momo line is an awesome speaker and youd have to get in the $400+ range to find something thatll whoop it. The DB is a great budget speaker and a good alternative if you cant afford the Momo. I wouldnt mess around with anything lower than the DB series tho.

so you think the momo 5.25s would be better than the ex components? if i use the momo 5.25s and then the ex2500 tweets do you think the sound will be too high in the front?
