Here is a parasound HCA-1000 that I used for several months to power some NHT SB3, which are reasonably difficult to drive, and the combo sounded great. However, when I paused the music and put my ear within a foot or so of the speakers, I could hear a faint hum. Even though I never noticed it when playing music, I decided to just replace the amp since I don't have time to mess with it.

So it probably will need a recap eventually, although you could use it as is just fine for now. I promise that unless you have the ears of a bat you would never notice unless you pause the music and get right in front of the speakers. If you recap this, it will drive almost anything. It is THX certified, John Curl designed, nice warm sounding amp.

Let me know if you have any questions. I pack well and ship via FedEx ground to CONUS. If someone in Hawaii, Alaska, or Canada wants it let me know and we can probably work something out.

    Pm Responded to!

Also I know that @skrol just recapped his own, and there are several other guys here who could do the work. Perhaps we could work out a three way where I ship it to the person that is going to recap it and then they ship it on to the permanent owner? Just a thought...

Thanks vmaxer, rooftop is always a great guy to buy from , highly recommend him to others here. There are so__ many great deals here on the flea market, really, why buy anywhere else? Honestly, I can't believe why so many awesome deals haven't been snatched up yet. I remember back when these kind of deals were gone in a hour, a day or less.

These amps seem sensitive to ground loops. Even after recaping, mine had a hum on the workbench. When I put it in my main system, there was no hum.

If you recap, you can upgrade the main power supply caps from 10,000uF 60V to 12,000uF 80V. I got mine from Mouser. These values apparently were not available that would fit the physical dimensions back when the amp was designed. Mr. Curl mentioned this as a compromise with this amp. You can also from 15000uF 60V but I opted for more voltage margin as the rails are running around 60V. Also, Mr. Curl says you can up the bias voltage from the factory 10mV to 17mV-20mV. Just make sure you have good ventilation as it will run hotter.

Oh yeah, check real well for broken solder joints.

Congrats, it is a sweet little amp.

Hi all, wanted to let everyone know the amp arrived all safe and sound Firday, (yes, I've got pics to prove it,lol) . Rooftop double boxed it to survive a earthquake. :) Ran it this weekend in the HT as a center amp, sounds great, blends perfectly with my Parasound 1200ii on the mains. Game of Thrones never sounded better. Highly recommend Rooftop for more future Outstanding transactions. ;)
