I have been doing A B comparisons between my recaped speaker sets.

Beyond the obvious different cabinet sizes and crossovers, I wonder why they sound so different. Sure they both are monitors 5, but there's nothing in common between the two, I would think.

the jr+ (With sl2000) sound a bit louder across the range, brighter, more pronounced mid range I love andnice bass too.

The 5b (with rdo194) sound wider, mellow highs and mids. The bass goes depper, rounder and much more defined.

Can't tell which set I prefer...

Yup. Both great speakers. I had a pair of 5a's with the peerless tweets on tilt stands & i paired them to a small 20wpc Sansui G receiver & it was pure bliss. Those 5's are a bang for the buck

A/b ing can be confusing sometimes. I would pick one pair listen for a few days allowing your ears to get accustomed to the speakers, than switch. Listen for a few days get your ears accustomed to that pair than switch again and listen foe differences! Hear what is missing more than the differences per say!

The crossover network of the Monitor 5 is quite different from that of the 5jr+. The 5jr+ has more midrange, largely due to the simple low pass filter in its design. The 5 will naturally have more bass because of the larger internal cabinet volume and passive radiator.
