Tell me something about the M1s

Can someone tell me something about my M1s??? What were they designed for? I'm using them as surrounds? Were they designed as surround speakers?

Right now I've got them on each side of the listening area, facing each other. What am I missing by having these instead of some of the more expensive surrounds or bookshelves???

    I've been using a pair of M1's as my surounds for about 4 years. They are adequate for my room (11 x 22) although I have very rarely played them anywhere near reference (unless the wife isn't home :D ). They are installed about 5 feet behind and approx. 3 feet above the main listening area on a rear wall (in a 5.1 setup).

    My literature lists them as indoor/outdoor speakers although I would be very skeptical about using them outdoors in severe weather conditions as they are plastic w/plastic grills and not as well made as the Atrium series.
