Question re: speaker terminals on RTI A7s

I realize this will likely come off as a remarkably stupid question, but please humor my paranoia in just wanting to make sure I truly know what I am doing.

I am bi-amping my RTI A7s from my AVR ::dodges rocks::.

For whatever reason, unlike my previous Polk Audio speakers, the newer models (at least the RTI A7s) do not specify on the back of the speaker terminals which is the high frequency level and which is the low frequency level. I believe common knowledge dictates that the upper set of terminals are the high frequencies and the lower set of terminals are the low frequencies.

However -- enter my paranoia. The previous set of Polk RTi 100s that I just replaced actually specified during bi-amping that the LOWER set of terminals were the high level input. It is written right there on the back of the speaker itself.

Hopefully, this all makes sense. I am simply looking for:

1. A definitive answer as to which set of terminals is intended for which frequency delivery.

2. Opinions (I know they are conflicting) on whether I would be better served by delivering the main front R/L channel from the AVR to the high frequency input (as is suggested in my AVR manual and the Polk Audio manual, assuming my assumption is correct since they are not labeled even in the manual...WTH?

Looking forward to the assistance, and I thank you all in advance!

The lower terminals on the 100's are high LEVEL inputs for the built in sub, not high frequency inputs. They are still highs on top, and lows on the bottom. You remove the jumper if using the low level line inputs.

All the speakers I have ever had, the top terminals were forthe high frequencies. bottom for low frequencies. I'm sure there is an exception somewhere.

Useless effort. All you're doing is decreasing the amount of available power per channel.

  • Thanks for the assistance! I appreciate it. Makes much more sense now. I simply wasn't interpreting "high level" appropriately on the old 100s I had until now. Makes absolute sense.
