I guess I saw a youtube or something using a spin clean with just distilled water. Does anyone think it is worth the effort to wash vinyl is just water? I already washed everything in the solution, 30 or so albums between solution changes depending on how funky the solution got.

I clean using a home concoction and rinse with distilled water.

ok Bill clue me in, what are you using in your concoction?

I think the ultra distilled is what most use for a rinse, not for a wash. Though, I am interested in the home brew cleaner too!VA HT HK AVR20II, Sony S9000ES CD/DVD/SACD, Polk Audio RC80i / Polk Audio CSi3, 60" Panasonic Plasma, Nordost / Signal Cable A2 / Wireworld / Pangea / Magic Power

I wash and rinse as well. Distilled water and maybe a tiny bit of 91% alcohol.
Some say never on the alcohol. The famed D4+ has Isopropyl (67-63-0)
I'm not finding anything on the needle or record
after play unless it was in the air. No residue if you will. (for the most part)
I don't have a spin clean though. YMMV. -
One part 91% isopropyl alcohol, three parts distilled water, half a cap of Woolite, and a few drops of Kodak Photoflow.

Is the photoflow used as a "wetting agent"???

That looks like a good mix. Have you been using it long?

Not really sure. 8 to 10 years I'm guessing. I always rinse each side with distilled water. I also use 2 diff. brushes for the wash and rinse. Yes I also brush the rinse. I use the stiffer VPI brush for the cleaning and the softer denser Nitty Gritty for the rinse.
As always YMMV

That's all I use in my spin clean is distilled water. Works fine. No need to wash and rinse unless you have some nasty vinyl and even then I doubt the spinner is gonna do the trick. For all my cleaning needs. Pure water does the trick. Saves money too.

I agree with chumlie that water will always be the best cleaner.
I am doing this in degrees now depending on what is on the vinyl.
I'm buying less nasty looking vinyl than ever.
New gets DW and a vacuum (no hand brush or maybe felt brush)
crusty gets my potion then a DW rinse
(presoak) crusty with finger prints get a spot treatment of MOFI super record wash or
D4+ for scratches and wait around for it to work...then DW on top or the
potion...then a rinse w/ DW
I've tried ONE cleaning solution and it helps with hand cleaning records.
I've used (3 drops per 24 oz DW max) cascade crystal clear for rinse.
I don't use it now as I have a record cleaning machine. That is why I was
putting a tiny bit of alcohol in the rinse, to keep any bubbles down to zero.

I'm very furtunate in my area with availability of vinyl. I have for 2 years now replaced my collection with nothing but mint or neer mint copys only! Half speed masters and original masters every time i find them, so i would like too keep them as nice as i can. I subscribe to the formula of 50 to 70 plays than replace them. As i have been convienced that there is a substantial loss of dynamics after 50 or so plays, so the idea of rejuvenating old "beaters" probably is not worth the effort.( i have tested this therory a/bing vinyl and im convienced! ) With patient's I've found must of what i want for critical listening.Main Rig:

I wash all my new vinyl also, my main wash is a concentrated mix from VPI (about 4 oz) you pour into a gallon of Distilled water, and then I follow with a rinse of just distilled water...
but if its a old vinyl I just got I use a Enzyme plus cleaner and let it soak a minute or two..then vpi cleaner then rinse with water... but I only do this once, then if I choose to clean it again just VPI cleaner & Rinse.2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge
