I have to tell you my 1st real stereo did have Lafayette Criterion 100s and they basically sucked. I come across this C/L ad and I think it's for only 1 speaker while higher up the food chain he wants $400 clams. As you see it's a large 3 way w/ some sort of out on / board x-over knob thing. It looks like something Klipsch would do and not even close in sound . He he nuts or is this one of the rare gems people speak about.

Looks like just one of the 15's is worth around $100

Don't these speakers have any DAMPING materials? Just an empty box with three drivers for $400. Really? How about a pair of large Bozaks? And even they'd be too high at $400 a pair!Currently orbiting Bowie's Blackstar.!

The things in the first post are essientially DIY, or a kit, made with fairly generic Asian (edit: or possibly US-made Utah) OEM drivers sold by LRE (Lafayette) for many years -- they aren't bad (i.e., they're better than the Criterion speaker 100 speaker systems mentioned in the first post) and that little horn tweeter is (still) held in some regard in some circles...

but...
the UK-made Goodmans sold as LRE SK-112 coaxes are in a different league altogether.

There's considerably better sounding stuff out there than the Utah drivers -- IMO, at least.

Mark, I did not see anything marked Utah unless that's what they sourced and slapped on the Lafayette label. Another puzzling thing is there are so many open ports, are any drivers tweeters and the horse hair or insulation missing? i Re read your reply and they are sourced out. I didn't think Lafayette ever made a cabinet that freaking big and evidently they did not. Oh, those 100s were my 1st 'real stereo' w/ a Lafayette receiver and a Dual 1225 w/ a Shure cart MKV ?2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I dunno LW....maybe we should ask why are you even looking at those ? Nothing on the vintage market in your price range is going to stomp the SDA's....plus you already have a bunch of different speakers dontcha ?
Unless of course your looking to replace the SDA's with something else, otherwise....save your coin and look into upgrading the gear pal. IMHO...that's where you'll realize the biggest boost in SQ at the stage your at.HT SYSTEM-

Tony all I have time on my hands w/ no money. So I look and found this both interesting and puzzling at the same time. If the the 2Bs were to move my wish list for vintage speakers in no particular order, JBLCentury 100s, Ohm/Walsh 2XOs, ESS Heil AMT 1pyramids, DCM Time Window 3s, Vandersteen 2ci or 3s, Klipsch KLF 20s,Quartets or Forte', Of course there are bigger better than what I mentioned but in a 1 bdrm logistics is key.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E
