My non-Polk speakers

I've had plenty of speakers over the years, and many of them have been Polk Audio, but I don't have any right now. I just happen to think that this is the best audio forum on the web, period. So I wanted to share my current setup, as I actually tidied up!

The Mirage bottom end is top notch. Makes the B&W sound like a bookie. I got them from woot, and I'm pretty happy. They don't image very well, but I'm using them for surround anyway, which they do really well with. I like how dispersed they are, especially when I flop around on the couch in a bunch of different positions, and they never make themselves obvious. Fit and finish is excellent. For two-channel, I would try something else.

That is indeed last the previous Sony XBR 4K. It's hard to beat their video processing, IMO.

    Thanks, guys!

BTW the Mirage are on surround duty, and the B&W 803 are for stereo. The B&W center is just hanging out, not hooked up to a darn thing. The electronics under the TV are for the stereo setup, and the surround equipment is just peeking in from the left.

Looks great! I had a chance to listen to a set of OMD28s a couple of weeks ago. I really liked the low end and they sounded fantastic overall. I did think they were a bit subdued in the uppers for my taste however. Great looking room btw.
Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Sweet looking rig. I always cringe when I see a nice amp shoehorned into a rack. Doesn't that ML run pretty hot?
  • swegyptian
    swegyptian Posts: 316
I've had no issues with the ML amps, but I tend to keep the volume pretty low. The heat sinks are on the outside of the chassis, and they are never more than warm. I would say that the average AVR is much hotter than the ML amps.

I've been on the forum for almost 16 years without having a pair of Polk as my mains. BUT, they have made some great and some outstanding sounding loudspeakers over the years, and I applaud that. Would've bought them if I didn't already have what I had. Plus Matt bought me dinner that time, which I also applaud. Some interesting revelations at that feast.

I like to think I was welcome here all of the time, but I know better.

My first "real" speakers were a pair of LS 70's (I have the LS F/X & CS 350S as well). As they are used every day in my family room system, they didn't make it into the pic below... Neither did the SDA SRS pair, or the NHT 2.5 pair - both so new (to me) that they're still in the garage.

Sweet Jesus. Two pair of Kappa 9's! Whatcha driving them with?

    daddyjt Posts: 2,595
I drive the Kappas (I only run one pair at a time) with either a pair of Carver Silver 9t monoblocks, or I bi-amp them with a pair of 1.0t mkII Carvers. I actually think the 1.0t mkII pair sounds a bit better. They are power hungry beasts though - They will take everything you can give them, and still ask for more.

These were before I got the Silver 9t pair - The center is now one level above where it is in the photo, and the tv sits on the center. The Silver 9t pair just fits where the center was, and the TT is on the top shelf, to the left of the center. I have also filled three more shelves in the media clocet with DVDs...:-) Oh, and all the movie posters are signed originals...

Yeah --- that was the goal of my little hifi den; but it silted in way too fast... way too fast.

There actually is one pair of Polk Audio loudspeakers in the photo above, but they're not obvious in any real sense of the word -- if they were, I was going to suggest a "where's Waldo?" moment.

Yes, the top one is a 105, and the bottom a 95. I plan to move the 95 out to my 2 channel system, as soon as I get around to building a 2 channel system;-) I run all of my music (Except high res DVD Audio & SACD) from FLAC off of a portable hard drive through the 105.

Have you looked at doing the same with your blu-rays  I helped Chris(Cwad at that other place) set his system up and he's loving it....
