I may be on to something here with the magic erasers???

I am blasting 2112 and checking the vibration coming up through the shelf from the floor to the TT. The magic erasers that I set the TT legs on have seriously reduced the vibration reaching the TT much more so than the vibrapods alone. I may eliminate the vibrapods and replace them with more magic erasers or add a second platform in between. The vibrapod set that I have is probably overloaded with the TT and the platform anyway. I don't care how it looks I only care how it works.

The dust cover on the TT does vibrate quite a bit still but that is just from the sound not from the floor. Any suggestion on how to dampen that? I keep it closed because I live in the dustiest place on earth.

Man you want me to figure out how to put a pic up?

I cant make the pic upload but pretty much like cnh's pic. Top shelf-vibrapods-platform-erasers-TT. The platform is a shelf out of an old entertainment center, I have another that I can use. So I will try erasers-platform-vibrapods-platform-erasers-TT. What the heck more erasers are like 3 bucks.

It's Randy (Boston1450) with the TT on the butcher block, NOT cnh.

Sorry Randy. So are you using anything for vibration between the TT?
-
My only concern here is will it maintain level. If one corner weighs more will Magic Eraser keeps the same thickness or will it compress ?? I'm betting it will compress even if it's just a little.

That is my Technics sl1300 with a butcher block i cut out of a old countertop/roll away cart. I was gonna burn it & read here to try/buy butcher block for isolation & it does work for me...
-
Good point Bill. I dont think that will be and issue if I use the magic erasers between the top and platforms because the load is spread over a lot of surface area. Each eraser is about 3x5. However the TT is still checking level for now sitting directly on the erasers. I am trying to keep the vibrapods in the mix only because I paid 25 bucks for them.

I would start with a decent sturdy rack/shelf. If its flimsy thats not good-in my book & im no expert in turntables. But i use to walk around on pins n needles. Not no more..

cnh, you got anything between the butcher block and the TT or shelf top?
[/quote] ...... Nothing. Sturdy rack-glasstop with block just sitting on it. I was going to put little rubber thingy's on it & didnt need to. I did this 8 months ago with great results with ZERO budget i had to work with

This is what it is on, it's fairly solid.

That looks nice. i would try a butcher block. Look for used on Clist. Cut one out like i did/look online under turntable. Just a thought..
-
Im got good with turntables. But are the feet on tt decent ? They also have upgraded ones i would think that may be worth a look..
-
I do have a 1.75" thick butcher block that I hardly use. I will try it. Thanks
-
Damn, I may have to use those magic erasers to scrub the tub now %^(

Nothing. I just laid it down in place & put the turntable on it.... I wondered if i should. But i never did 8 mos ago & dont intend on it now. You could try & see. Maybe read what others have done as im no expert..
-
I will try it when I get home but I suspect that it will transmit the vibration since my floor acts like a big drum head. I will probably end up with some crazy looking sandwich of stuff.
-
Like i stated before. I use to walk in living room & it would cause problems with tt & i did some asking around here & i tried this & it worked for me. Not hi end & not new expensive top of the line gear. But a skill saw & sand paper machine & stain walla im happy & it did wonders..
-
I will use it if nothing else it should resonate less than the shelves
