Hey folks, nice board. I have a question for you Polk followers.

My first set of decent speakers were Polks. I started off with a Monitor 6 set with a CS200 center and a pair of M3 surrounds. The system was replaced with other products when we moved and has sat for a long while.

I still have the CS200 and Monitor 6 set and am in the process of building a secondary system around them. I have always liked the sound of the 6's and felt they were fantastic for their size and price range. They will be pulling rear channel duty.

I started off putting a pair of R15's in as mains and have really enjoyed them. Great speaker for the money. I just bought a pair of R20's to take over the main duty and moved the 15's to the sides. The 20's are even better than the 15's.

You can probably see my pattern here of bang-for-the-buck purchases. What I need now is a center, and as I'm not real up to date on the newer models I'm wondering if you folks can let me know what would blend well with the R20's.

I listened to the 30i and 40i and preferred the 40. But I'm not sure how it would go with the 20's. Are there any other models I should consider? Any help would be appreciated.

(sorry for the long post)

The R series is cool, glad you have enjoyed them.

I certainly wouldn't suggest the CS175i(CSi20), as it is an underachiever. You might want to check out a CS245i(CSi30) or CS400i(CSi40), they drop into the used market, I listed the more modern equals in brackets. The all drop into the used Ebay market pretty frequently.

I think someone posted a Ebay CS400i in the flea market area.

You will be fine with a CSi30 or CSi40. You may have some volume calibration adjustements, but overall it will work smoothly.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Thanks for the welcome. You're pretty much confirming what I've been thinking. I agree about the csi20, it looks pretty inadequate for most decent setups.

Are the cs245i/csi30 and cs400i/csi40 all discontinued? The csi5 &3 seem pretty pevelent now. I was just wondering if the other models are going to get harder to find on the used market. Thanks.

I would concur with the dorkmeister and would add that I would keep an eye out for a used CS350-LS, my favorite Polk center channel. They pop up from time to time and can be had pretty reasonable.

Keep posting and let us know what you come up with.

CS350-LS, check. I will keep an eye out for that. Could you tell me what the driver configuration is on that? Is that from the same era as my CS200?

ATCVenom.....Thanks, sound & value is what I was going for, or forced to go for as I've been sinking $ into the main system

What I really need is an up to date sub in the less than $200 range. Any ideas

    (Thanks for the replies.....great info)
