Hi guys, wanted to let a thank you note for the advice and help i received to recap my speakers.

On the Monitor 5B with i used clarity ESA, Mundorf resistor and new drivers (RDO-194 and MW6020). The 5JR+ received Sonicap and mills resistor.

The results are excellent, the 5B ended up sounding smoother and warmer with bigger bass. 5jr+ has more pronounced highs and mids. The sound pretty amazing when both speaker pairs play simultaneously… I am not sure is this is safe for the receiver, any thoughts?!

Playing speakers side by side results in comb filtering issues.

    I like your setup.
How's the Marantz working out for you?

    Comb filtering -
Is this only side by side, or also stacked/any multiple speakers in front soundstage?

4 speakers do not IMPROVE sound quality ( think back why quad failed) it interferes with imaging and detail. If you must stack vertically.

Stacked speakers result in lobing. It called 2 channel for a reason.

I did that once, stacked 4.5's on my 8t's. Ya, young and dumb I was back then but hell, I thought it sounded pretty good...

This 1974 Marantz sounds amazing. It had a channel down when i got it, I replaced the relay, electrolytic caps and some other problematic components about a year and a half ago with the help of some audio karma folks.

here is the link to the thread:

I like to see my friends and family get blown away with the sound of an old piece of gear… I guess they don't expect it to sound as is.
