Rogue Audio Metis or Eastern Electric Minimax?

Have you ever been so paralyzed by a pending decision that you actually needed somebody else to tell you what to do?

Well here I am.....needing your input. I am going to sell one of the mentioned pre amps

Situation:
I have a Rogue Audio Metis pre and an Eastern Electric Minimax pre. The Rogue piece uses (2) 6SN7 tubes and I love the sound of that particular family of tubes.

The EE Minimax uses (2) 12AU7 tubes and a 6X4 Rec tube

What makes me pause with the EE is that my other amp is an integrated PrimaLuna Prologue One, which uses (2) 12ax7 and (2) 12au7 small signal tubes.

The EE sounds great but uses the same small signal tubes as the PrimaLuna. The Rogue gives me optionality because they use different tubes (6SN7).

I've been listening to both pre amps back and forth for a while and cant decide, so if it were you.....what would you do?

If the PL is an integrated, how does it sound on it's own ?

Tony it sounds very, very good. It's a keeper!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding....then why do you need an additional pre amp at all ? If the PL integrated sounds good that is.

Sometimes we chase different and call it better. Tube wise, 6SN7 is among the lowest distortion amplification devices ever made, with 56/76 types measuring only slightly better. My advice is go with what makes you happier. You can always go back....

Carl has a Rogue Super Magnum 99 with 6SN7's, with latest updates. It has a wonderful sound quality in his system. Rogue has excellent customer service as well.

Amen Rich, the differences between the 2 can be somewhat blurred. Good point on the CS....that might be enough to push the Rogue onto residency status.

I have no experience with tubes,

however since you have the same type of tubes on the primaluna than on the EE, do you prefer tube rolling (which would make it easier because you can tube roll on 2 pieces of gear instead of one)? or rely on the integrated for that type of tubes and keep the rogue which you Love?

see that is a battle between emotion and practicality, I usually make rational/practical decisions...and then regret not going after my heart... if you are the same way, take practicality out of it and enjoy the LOVE. worst case scenario you still have one piece of gear that gives you a similar experience (the integrated use the same type of tubes you are sacrificing).

Tony...the PL is for one system and the pre I decide to keep will be paired with a Parasound 1500 amp for another system

good point Eduardo, I usually try to rationalize my audio choices. But I really am torn between the two

Since I couldn't decide I figured I'd list them both and which ever one sold first, I'd keep the other. Not very scientific, but I need to sell one of them

before i got my Vincent setup I really wanted a Metis preamp with one of their amps for my set up.
