Any good reason not to buy an RX-A2030

What features are you looking to gain by moving from the 1040 to the 2030? The power increase will be negligible.

I'd stick with the newer 1040. Spend that money on records or a better phono preamp. The iFi iPhono that Skip can get you looks interesting.

You could upgrade your cartridge to a Shure M97Xe and get the upgraded Jico stylus for it.

I think any of these things would be a better use of money, personally.

I sort of want the extra 2 channels so I can run the presence speakers simultaneously. I also will need a new home for my Emo XPA-3, the bedroom AVR has no pre-outs.

If I may recommend,
If/when you get it, plug it in with nothing attached first and power it up.
Put it threw its paces so to speak looking for obvious issues. go from there...

and be done w/ it.

Everyone is right I suppose in that a 2 channel amp is going to be more

I read somewhere that a atmos upgrade might be available for this model to adjust my earlier comment.

It has ECO mode operation for about 20 percent less power consumption
and party mode! Anyone get their ears on one of these?

Well I did it. I have my 9 channels. Cost less than my 1040 no regrets yet...

Never had a Pioneer, the 2040 is my first yammy and it by far the best AVR to date.

Yamaha really raised the bar with their AVENTAGE series AVR's. Lovin my 3010...you won't be disappointed at all with your new 2040. Congrats & enjoy!
