Can someone tell me how to I.D. the tweeters on my M 10 A's? I just found a pair on CL for $40 but they are pretty ugly. They do sound awesome though! They were buried in a horders closet for the past 20 years so I hade to save them. The ones that are on them have the the wires that angle down on both sides about 45 degrees.
As well, I'm hopping someone will tell me that there worth restoreing? This my first pair of Polks and I love the sound they make and can't imagine how much better cap upgrades could be. Is it worth the $?
Thanks alot

These? Peerless tweeters.

Those are the ones! So, are they special?

As a generalization they're better than SL1000 or SL2000's. Against the new replacements though, it seems a personal preference argument can be made for either Peerless or RDO-194. I haven't seen anyone directly compare Peerless to RDO-198's.
The thing about Peerless though is aside from an unofficial clone, they are no longer made. At a certain point used ones will be unobtanium. Take care of them and unless you have a good amp and know what you are doing don't bypass the fuses, and make sure you are using the correct fuses.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Two years ago my wife let me buy my first Marantz, since then I have gone through CL and have bought, sold, traded about 12 pair of vintage speakers, all top shelf back in the day and have finally found the Holy grail for sound!

Thanks for the advice, the fuses look like they're are original. I don't think I would try to change anything myself. Truthfully, I can't push them much past 50 out of 98 on the volume. The NR 1403 only has 80 W RMS @ 6 omh, but at 55 it's so loud and clear the neighbors 4 houses down can hear me! I love 'em!

You mean 50% of the volume dial? That's pushing it depending on how loud the source is.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Mostly we use the iPod or my kids play you tube videos from the iPad thru the Marantz blu ray on wi-fi. My wife said I gotta' share, and she makes the loot in the household. At least I can have the Marantz, be it the low end!
