I Never Should Have Bought a Turntable

AB ... see if you have any local used Record shops in town and go see what they have and save a bunch over new...the new 180 gram vinyls are nice heavy stock but average around $20 a LP...there is still some nice used LP out there and you may find them closer then you think
I just bought a used Bob Seger "Stranger in Town" and it sounds great, but the night movies one was scratched in all the good places think someone drop the needle on it during the slow part of night movies...2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

I am happy to play my old vinyl, got close to 300 albums. I am happy to play them again, but I don't think I will invest more unless I see something irresistible.

I understand, to me cleaning and playing Vinyl is therapeutic & relaxing and slows you down a bit to stop and enjoy things. when I'm playing Vinyl sometimes i want a beer but more times then not I just want a glass of or cup of Tea!
Right now I'm drinking some "Black Currant" Ice Tea!

They are having their July sale at Half Priced Books and I picked up a Direct Digital Master of Miles Davis 'In Person' 2 LP set new for $8 dollars and some change. A quick rinse on the RCM and I am good to go. There is something Zen about going all HiRes
digital w/ your gear and source but where is the fun that? To cheap and easy! -

So now that you have everything setup what sounds better in your system to you, digital or vinyl?

Agreed I enjoy and love the vinyl process. I'll never feel that way about digital. Afterburnt maybe it's just not for you. It does involve work and sometimes heartbreak when you buy an LP that's less than perfect. Still for me 95% of my listening is and will continue to be at 33 1/3.

The thing for me is not only do I enjoy getting everything warmed up, taking the vinyl out and dusting it off, playing it and then turning it over for side 2. The sound of vinyl in my system sounds better then my hi-res digital.Anaheim Hills CA,

Good. We are where we should be. If you want both or all, then so be it.

it would be final final vinyl at least.

It's a funny thing. I would have to go ALL digital and get rid of all vinyl
and CDs and DVDs and Blu Rays. It doesn't even occur to me right now
to search for a "CD" on my mac. -
I found this post again while searching Discogs. holy crap, man, that place is like a vinyl wonderland. to think I once thought my only options were my local shop, Ebay or Amazon. I can't get over the availability on Discogs and all the info and history on all the different releases. I'm learning a little and it's helping me to make more informed purchases instead of just taking whatever pops up around here or on Ebay.
to reinforce what NF says - maaaaan, this is a rabbit hole of a new sort altogether to me! and yes, there's something about the experience (ritual?) of playing a record... it's relaxing in a why I just can't explain.I disabled signatures. -

My husband and I Inherited a nice sized collection from one of his relatives. We have found it a lot of fun, and something different to do, for the last few years!
But with that having been said, we tried our hand at "Used" and "New" Vinyl a few times and realized it was not for us.
The used stuff, was simply not in good enough condition to warrant the prices it is going at, I guess cause it is the 'thing" now.
The new stuff, was simply far too high priced for what it was also.
I think getting into vinyl is like a bug...it is addictive, but one has to weigh the potential outlay against reality of what you get.
For now we are just playing the several hundred great records we acquired, but do not think it is worth it financially or mentally to anguish over prices in stores now, to get home and find something more flawed than the stuff his uncle owned. -
^^^^
I do understand that , as new Vinyl is very pricey and yes it can be tough to fine good clean used ones, though I've struck gold this month when I found 5 Mint vinyls for under $5 1 was $2.99 for a mint copy of Scandal * Scandal Vinyl2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

Not sorry at all I got back into vinyl. I just wished I had my Dual again. Initial investment was around $80 for my JVC QL-A-200 w/ a Grado FT+1 cart which I have changed out to a Grado Black. My LP picking has been good for me at both thrift stores and garage sales. Yes I have gotten a few on E-Bay like a brand new never opened Gram Parsons Grievous Angel. My problem now is I need a new rack of some kind, I have over 100 albums now and it's a pleasure as also a p.i.t.a to get up and change sides and listen to a clean album.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I have recently been bitten by the vinyl bug. After a long hiatus from the rituals of vinyl I decided on a whim to hookup an old Technis SL D2 .I found this at the re-use center a few years back but never really tried it.I mounted a 20+ yr old AudioTechnica AT110E I still had stored in a parts bin.I used the phono section of an Adcom GTP400,from my basement stash.I was'nt expecting much from this very pedestrian set up.I was pleasantly surprised in fact I was somewhat shocked by the level of musicality I was hearing.I mean these cheap direct drives have zero audiophile cred, how can it possibly sound any good?Ecouraged by what I'm hearing I'm now on the lookout for some good used vinyl.Since I have my digital rig pretty much where I want it my next upgrade path will be toward the TT,cartridge and phono pre.I'm nearly finished a clone of Hagermans Bugle that I can't wait to try.I suspect it should best the Adcom.
