I got this TEAC TN-300 Analog Turntable with Built-in Phono Pre-amplifier & USB Digital Output on the way and I just wanted to know what I should do to fix it up. Not that I would spend more money on this thing. I am just making conversation lol

Shure M97XE is highly recommended across the internet, add the Jico stylus, even better. Also is the Audio Technica AT440MLA.
I'm interested in a tube phono preamp but I haven't got that far yet. I think I'm going to do my cartridge first.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Nothing wrong with that Teac it's a nice looking TT, comes with a pretty decent Audio Technica Cartridge, for the price you paid. I would give it some time play some Vinyl and enjoy it, maybe get a better cartridge for it down the road, what color did you get?Home Theater

The Shure is actually not that expensive, like $75. The upgraded Jico stylus is more expensive than the entire cartridge at around $200.
Of course this is after you wear out the stylus that came with the TT, unless you're disappointed in the sound from the AT95E.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Get a good system for cleaning your LP's next.

Get this one and all you would need is a dust cover for it good price on this the cartridge is worth 800 alone. That Teac will do just fine until you buy this one!Home Theater

Also, if your serious about getting into vinyl, I recommend a good vacuum RCM like a VPI or Nitty Gritty.

I'm sure you already know this but just in case: only use distilled water to clean your records. You get it at the grocery store for real cheap.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Thanks for all of the advice. This TT that I am getting is entry level. It comes with a cable which I am sure is not great and the cartridge can probably be improved on at a reasonable price. But it is just a $400 TT. My albums go from almost never spun to been at a few too many parties however there are at least a few that are just not made anymore and would like to get a good digital copy of.. If I can spend a couple of bucks on some upgrades that may transfer to a better TT I am willing to go for it. I have lost three album collections throughout my life and even my current collection is not close to what I have lost.

Yes I do know this, the liquid rock from the tap here hardly cleans clothing lol.

Is there anything that I should look for in some RCA's that would be worthwhile and not cost too much?

This teac sounds pretty dam sweet. And the more you play it, the better it sounds. Give it some time, and get some nice interconnects. Proper setup also does wonders. Why worry about upgrading cartridges before you even have it. it sounds great right out of the box!2 channel:

The Blue Jeans Cable LC-1 IC is inexpensive and it is a fantastic TT interconnect. http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/audio/index.htmOh, Listen here mister. Good choice!
I still use coax for my TT IC's. Lowest capacitance and shielding are what you want for turntables. I also use coax IC's between my SUT (Step Up Transformer) and phono pre and to pre amp. I've tried the fancy-pricey stuff and went back to simple coax.

This has a built-in phono pre. I believe he only needs standard RCA's, right?

I understand it has the phono pre amp built in, but I still prefer low capacitance coax between a SUT and phono pre amp and between phono pre and pre amp. If you do use a standard IC, I'd suggest they be low capacitance and shielded. You are still dealing with a low level signal, unlike between pre amp and amp.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *

I wouldn't want to be limited to the TT"s pre-amp section.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Like a CD player, you are in the 'around' or below 2v range with a phono pre amp.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *

It looks like it has a bypass switch so i guess you can defeat the internal pre amp. I already have BJC IC's on everything I suppose I will get another set for the TT unless the Audioquest would be better. I am not sure if that switch is a bypass or switches from analog to USB.

Yes I figured the internal preamp is able to be defeated. My point was using a standard IC would limit you to the use of the internal pre. Using an external pre or the one in your AVR would benefit from the use of an LC-1 do to its above average shielding and low capacitance.Oh, Listen here mister. I will get it figured out when it gets here. In the mean time I will order some more BJC's for it. I can wait to get my new shelf so I can get it all organized and unghetto my stuff lol.
