Good disk washer?

My 33's are crusty for sitting for 30 years. I need an efective cleaning system that works and dont work me too hard. What do you economy minded folks use?

Before I picked up my Nitty Gritty MiniPro, I used a a dry brush (Hunt EDA mk 6) and for wet cleans a SpinClean - cheap and fairly effective honestly. Not as quick or as good as the NG, but then again, costs 1/10th of the NG.

MrBuhl please elaborate. I am using a hand held velour thing with fluid. I have been playing 33's for kicks, but I have a ton of stuff that is not easily found, I have been pretty happy replacing what I can with CD's

A Spin Clean, Discwasher, Zerostat, and a few antistatic brushes, is my arsenal when it comes to keeping my vinyl clean. A Nitty Gritty is on my wish list.

Spin Clean - better than the liquid and brush I think, at least your vinyl gets into a suspension liquid while being bushed to help lift away grime. Basically a two sided version of your velour brushes, in a vertical tub of cleaning fluid. Whatever chemical SpinClean uses in their fluid, it does remove the grime, and IMO is the secret to the good results. Your mileage may vary of course.

If you have really really HTF stuff, you may want to pony up for a Nitty Gritty or VPI vacuum based machine though, there is no substitute. A one-side clean NG is about $400-$500 new I think (you have to flip to clean each side) my MiniPro does both sides at once, but is a next level in pricing too.

it's very short money considering the work it does - what settles out of the water after you've cleaned a few records is downright disturbing!

Very nice. You should post your thoughts on the Spin Clean after you try it out. I'd be interested.

I purchased the same Sanus rack recently, excellent quality for the money.

Good start! Once you get into a grove (pardon the pun) you can process quite a few records this way.

I'd get an old fashioned dish rack to put records in to let some of the fluid sheet off before hand drying, and some extra micro fiber cleaning rags to dry them with - they don't give off lint & actually attract dust from the record surface.

The Spin Clean was also on my short list and while it seems to do a decent job, the idea of running more albums through already contaminated water and brushes just didn't seem right to me. With that said I still plan to get one down the road but my albums are so old and crusty with even some mold that I plan a much more "intensive" 1st round of cleaning. Once they are decent a Spin Clean(or maybe a DIY vac cleaner) will probably be my normal cleaning routine.

Anyone have any good ideas on what to do with the original liners? I am putting everything in new anti static liners but there are some with pics and lyrics that I want to keep.

I put the old liner in the sleeve, and the new vinyl in anti-static inside the sleeve if it fits ok, if not then I slide it inside the outer cover protective sleeve instead at the back of the album.

Hey I just got a de ja vu thing cleaning my 33's. Never figured I would be doing this lol. Anyway I think I have to find some kind of folder for the printed sleves. I have not seen most of them since the 80's. I just found the Beatles pics from the "white album" in a Yes album cover... I must have been loaded or something I have no idea how they got there lol.

That's exactly what I do but I never put the record back into the album cover. Makes it easier to take the album out to play. Plus you always know which ones have been cleaned. I use a VPI 16.5

I don't want to be negative here but I have the Spin Clean and it does an ok job but not a great job. My next RCM is going to be the VPI. I'm going to get the new one that's made of SS and the motor goes both ways.

It's all good. My 33's have hardly seen the light of day let alone been cleaned. I am anxious to get this new TT it will be a quantum leap above the playskool kenwood that I have played with now and again. I really think that thing was hurting my albums even though it was good to listen to some vinyl after three decades. I just hope I wont need one of these
