Will CSi5 be ok with RTi150?

Hello everyone,
I'm a happy new owner of a pair of Polk RTi150. For now, I'm just listening in stereo, but I do want a 5.1 setup sometime soon. I know that you are supposed to match same line of speakers for the best soundstage, especially the fronts and center. Polk has discontinued the CSi40 for sometime now, so I want to know if the CSi5 is OK with the RTi150. Any comment or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Continue to check E-bay for the CSi40.

If you absolutely need a warrenty, you'll probably need to go with the CSi5. You could try a CC in your area and might get an open box.

IMHO: From what I've heard from the new series to the slightly less new, the CSi5 won't be a glaring mistake. Panning dialogue will be about the only time it is noticeable (or multi-channel music) and even then you’d have to be listening for it if everything is calibrated properly.
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

And that answers his question how????

Sid, at the rate you are going, you will pass even Russman with over 6 or 7 thousand posts here before you even turn 18! You are already halfway there!

Think about it for a minute, if you have 6000 posts, assuming an average of at least 2 minutes minimum for each one you make (and really, that is a very conservative estimate too as it is probably actually more than double that, and that is not even counting edits, etc.), then that will be over 1 whole week of your life so far spent 24/7 here on this board! Is it really worth it?

ti97, I believe that they would be a close enough match sonically that you probably wouldn't be able to tell too much of a drastic difference, but a better bet still would obviously be to get a 40 for them if possible.

Thanks to all for your helpful comments. Keep them coming! On a side note, I got a Polk CSi3 for free as a promotion when I ordered the RTi150s from Crutchfield. I haven't even opened it up yet. I have the option of returning it to Crutchfield (within the next 3 weeks) and use the credit to upgrade to the CSi5. Or I can Ebay it and try to find a matching CSi40. Another option is just to abandon the 6.5" woofers altogether and stick with the CSi3 as center. I've read somewhere on this forum that the CSi5 has too much bass, to the point of muddiness. Anybody else who has listened to both CSi3 and CSi5 have any comments on this issue? I definitely will visit a local CC soon and listen myself.

How does the example of I have a Klipsch center with polk mains answer his question?

He asked "Will the CSi5 be ok with Rti150"

If a Klipsch center works well with Polk mains, I think a Polk center will work well with Polk mains. Even if they are from a different series.

Just think BS, 1,000 of my Posts are replying to your posts about my posts.

Well, I sure am relieved that you cleared that up with your expert anaylisis and opinion. Now are you going to suggest that he get a pair of 38s to stack on top of them too?

Well that's very interesting considering that I don't even have 400 total myself yet.

I'd be checking Ebay for the 40, I've seen a few out there...

I'm in the same situation as you, 150s with needing a center...I ended up going with the CSi30, but may move to the CSi40 some day. I personally don't like the newer series as much with the 150s, but that's just me...

It took me about two weeks to get used to the CSi30, but now I love it...there are a couple of CSi40s out there on Ebay now, so I'd upgrade the CSi3 through Crutchfield or sell it on Ebay and grab a 30 or 40...

Hey ti97, don't worry about it. I am doing the same thing as you. Bought the RTi150's from crutchfield as well and started building my system. I tried to get a CS400i center, but just couldn't snag one off of ebay. Saw a CS245i and grabbed it while I could. I may not have the trained ear that many of the other members may have, but I was very impressed with the 245 when I hooked it up. Paid about $150 for it and it seems to be worth every penny. My FX500i surrounds just got here and they were well worth the money as well. Good luck with your new system, I'm trying to upgrade to components. Tough and costly, but the other members have been very helpful with good information.

I'm going to jump in there and say, "most" non super critical listeners won't even notice the mix of very similar rt, rti line of polk speakers, some will claim to notice.. I would also venture to say the new line would/ might sound the most different as they went with a vifa dome tweeter and changed the typical tweet they have had in the last 2 series. searching for a match looks better, will sound perfect together, However is not the biggest concern in your system i wouldnt think.. so Csi40 first, cs400i second and as a last resort csi5.. I can't believe thier would be "to" much bass in a center.. both drivers arent bass drivers i don't beleive.. one mid and one mid bass...

    I agree 110% here CSi40 first / CS400i second with RTi150's.

And no my CS400i doesn't give me too much bass, so use a large center.
