ADS speakers with issue-need help please

Went to hook up ADS model 500 & one of them is not working at all. Switched wires from receiver around & still nothing from this speaker. It has the nut you screw onto post & i tried to make better contact & still nothing. The only thing i didnt do is switch around driver-or-tweeter to other cabinets. I opened cabinet by removing driver & its plum full of filler & i looked crossovers over & made sure everything is intact. Didnt notice any fuse but my eyesight stinks. I know nothing about ADS let alone crossovers... Anyone here have knowledge in ADS speaker ? Im dying to hear these beautiful speakers-so i hope i can get em going soon. Thank you

    Hey Randy,

Mhardy probably knows the answer, but until he shows up I'll take a layman's stab, heck I'm only a social scientist, what do I know? lol

I have some ADS L520s, which are obviously later models (they sound great, BTW)! There is a panel to the left top that houses a fuse and I believe a spare above the speaker terminals on the back of the speaker. Check to see if you might have something similar and then check the fuses!

Do the back of yours look like this or not?

I see you don't have a fuse back there on the 500s. Nothing INSIDE?

Guess we'll have to wait for the Eidetic Ones?

Where those are 4ohms im hoping the Sansui Model 8 will push them. 60-160wpc at top end-that should do 4ohm speakers. Another concern i have is. If i run my 5jr's on speaker B (to another room in garage) would have to make SURE i run just the one set at a time. Would that sound correct & work

Ive alway wanted some ADS's & i couldnt see myself getting a big pair. There are some listed up here for 300+ & it wasnt the cost. It was the space issue. Today i get these fairly little guys & im estatic....

I saw those L810s and was tempted. Except that mhardy seems to think the L710s with the smaller 7" drivers are better? There is not much more low end in the 710s than in the 520s. The cabinets are the same size, the driver an 8" instead of two 7"s. The real advantage is probably in the 2" dome midrange addition that seems like a giant version of the ADS tweeter? I would like to hear those some day!

That's Dave in Norway. He's been refurbishing higher end vintage speakers for years. I bought my Marantz 2265 from him, an Engineer and a nice guy!

UPDATE:::: No fuse at all. Tweeter gone & driver had wire from speaker to speaker basket broke off. Im going to ship the driver & crossovers end of week to WMG & he is going to repair driver & update the crossovers with what is needed to get them up to specs. Thank you Dave. So these will be down awhile & i can refurbish the cabinets :)

He can rebuild that tweeter? Really?

I had some Nova 8s that someone had cut the positive wire from the woofer, couldn't figure out why one speaker had no bass. lol People do some pretty dumb S h i t!
