Buying on Discogs

So I signed up on Discogs and wanted to give it a try. I chose to buy just a single record because I wanted to see what the process was, how the site works, etc. Well it's been 7 days since my order has been changed to "payment received" and still hasn't been changed to "shipped". How long should I give this seller? Is it typical to wait a week or longer for shipping? Am I just being impatient?

Hmm - forgive me for being Capt Obvious but depends on where they're shipping from - I've picked up some rare stuff from overseas and it's taken a while, and some stuff from the US and it's been relatively quick.

7 days does seem like a long time unless they just aren't marking the "shipped" ticker, which is possible. I will say I've found everyone responsive to email inquiries on Discogs though, nothing wrong with checking in on a purchase...

...the grading, I've found to be a little suspect on some purchases is all. Not all, but some have been way over graded - particularly US sellers unfortunately. Sweeping generalization there.

Seller is in the US. I left a message on the order timeline, I just don't want to be that guy (or customer as it were), so I made it clear that it's not a big deal and am not in a hurry, just curious what's going on.

Yea - that's looking like a problem I agree. Pay by Paypal by chance? You should have recourse through them?

This could get "interesting". He says he can't find the record and just refunded the money. No big deal. Well I use a reloadable Visa card for Internet purchases, which I'm totally clueless how and if refunds work with it. Paypal shows they refunded the card but the online website for my card shows no refund yet. Ugh.

Ugh - that sucks man. If Paypal says the money's back you should be good. Merchant banks typically take 48 hours to process or more for a credit. Funny that way - they'll take the payment immediately, but have days to give it back... fingers crossed for you!

Do you have more positive experiences on Discogs than negative? I don't want to let one transaction deter me. What about Discogs vs eBay?

Seems odd to just not be able to find something you have for sale.

I'd say I've not had a truly negative experience yet on Discogs, but I try to be pretty careful there with only buying from good feedback sellers, etc because I'm usually only looking for hard to find items that cost a bit more there.

I have a hard time trusting ebay sellers on vinyl - at least at Discogs I feel like people understand vinyl ratings, ebay is all over the board (and I use ebay a LOT for other stuff - 640+ feedback). I've had good and bad there for records - solely as it relates to over-graded vinyl though.

I agree - seems odd like they didn't like the price they got or something. At least on ebay you do have the buyer's protection - no recourse really on Discogs.
