Just got my 1400 Friday. It replaced a Onkyo TX-SR500. I have Polk RTi70's, CSi40 4 RTi38's and 2 Sony SA-WM 40 subwoofers. I calibrated all speakers to 75 dB with the internal tones on the Yamaha. That makes the pair of Subs 81 dB. I watched Blade II yesterday and hit a 114 dB peak with the Radio Shack meter set on fast with the volume set to -10. That is in a 2900 cubic foot room and I sit 13 feet from the TV. I set the YPAO to EQ to the front speakers as the 70's are better than the rest. This receiver ROCKS! And yes it was too loud!

I listened to Dire Straits Brothers in Arms CD, closed my eyes and switched betweeen PEQ and GEO (set flat) several times fast so I would not know which I was listening to. I then listened to each for a while before switching to the other to see which sounded better. I picked PEQ about 90% of the time. The CD would not play as loud as the DVD.

So the question I have for you is, what did you pick for EQ, Front, Flat, Low, Mid or High?

I know everybody hears different, just looking to see what you think of the different EQ settings.

One more thing the tuner sucks! I live 60 miles from the only good Rock station and it will not pick it up in Stereo and the Onkyo did! It's on the same outside antenna...

Thanks,

Bill

There is no way to get the YPAO PEQ settings. There are automatically locked.

YPAO PEQ has 10-band equalizer BTW. The GEQ has 7-band and you can play with it and see how it sounds but in my honest opinion YPAO PEQ rocks. My Polks came alive.

Here are my levels what YPAO set for speakers.

    FRONT L: 9.5 db
    FRONT R: 9.5 db
    CENTER: 8.5 db
    SURR L: 7.5 db
    SURR R: 7.5 db

I set the sub level to +5 db for my Velodyne CHT-15.

I love "DIRECT STEREO" for 2-channel music my RT 800i rocks.

    Polk Audio RTi6 (back surrrounds)
    Velodyne CHT-15 (subwoofer)

    Hamzahsh,

    When you ran Auto Setup,
What EQ did you use, Front, Flat, Low, Mid or High?
I used Front as the 70's are better than the 38's.

Well when you use YPAO the OPIMIZER in red text appear on the OSD of 1400 which means it is using YPAO settings.

    Parameteric Equalizer PEQ

Graphic Equalizer GEQ which is flat

    PEQ is the best!
