Rolling Stones Zip Code tour

I saw the Stones in Milwaukee on Tuesday night. The Marcus Ampitheatre, smallest venue on the tour except the 2,000 seat Fonda show in LA where they played the entire Sticky Fingers album and the private shows in San Diego and Minneapolis for the corporate mobs. The Stones still deliver the goods. The set lists have been pretty much the same for years, one of the beefs of many Stones fans including me. They did Champaigne and Reefer with Buddy Guy, which was great, and also Moonlight Mile and Can't You Hear Me Knocking, but I'm getting pretty sick of Keith's two songs. The squares seemed to just love the set list though, but its the first show for many of them, or its been a long time. Lots of good photos and videos on the Rolling Stones fan site, IORR.com, go to the Milwaukee show thread. It was a perfect night weatherwise and it was a scalper's paradise. I picked up a "Lucky Dip" ticket for $29.95 plus fees from a friend. That's a limited number ticket and you pick up a white envelope at will-call, it might be front row, it might be the lawn you don't know until you get there but its cheap. It was a lawn seat, of course, but it got me in the venue and once in I found a better seat. Although the concert had originally sold out within minutes, thousands of tickets were on Stub Hub within ten minutes of going on sale. Then, all kinds of tickets became available at the ticket office the day of show. Almost like organized crime. People were lined up at the box office right before the show gladly paying over $400 face for so-so tickets. I was hoping that half-way through Buddy Guy the scalpers would drop their prices and I could pick up a nice ticket for a real reduced price. No way. It was the biggest crowd ever for a Summerfest concert apparently. (Actually they played the night before Summerfest started. Saw the Stones the last time they were in Milwaukee also, and twice in Chicago on that tour, probably never see them in Milwaukee again. I saw something I don't remember, Keith running full speed across the stage. Lol. Mick was a ball of energy. A few sour notes from Keith, must have arthritis or something.

Thanks, @dromunds . Have good seats to the Raleigh show Wednesday and I've never seen them, so I'm pretty excited about this. I also have the tix up on StubHub just in case someone is crazy enough, hehe.

Appears the correct address is IORR.org . Thanks for the link. I was unaware of this. While I like a few of Keith's songs, they're not exactly high on my list for a concert. But it looks like I'll be hearing both. Hoping for good weather.

vcwatkins: My buddy was at the Minneapolis show and said Keith was on fire. At the show in Milwaukee, I thought MIck and Charlie were on fire. Keith was okay. But they all move pretty good for being in their 70's, I mean there's no contesting the fact that they deliver the goods. If you have good seats you'll have a great time. That was maybe my 8th Stones show over the years and I've never seen a bad one. They've also got the sound dialed in pretty good, which wasn't always so true in the past, although it may have been a function of my seating. The guys I went with flew in from Boston just for this show and have seen the Stones 50 times since 1975 -they're going to Buffalo they liked the Milwaukee show so much. I wish they would mix up the set list, with all the great stuff they have in their bag, but that's the way it goes and whose to argue with their success. They can still fill stadiums after 50 years and command the highest ticket prices. The IORR site is fantastic, I'd take a good look. Sorry I got the address wrong, but glad you corrected me.

    WOW!! Fantastic show.

All players were energetic, happy, loose, having fun. Mick, Keith and Ron were engaging beyond expectation; joking and chatting with impish humor in their eyes, didn't take themselves too seriously, looking like they felt like 18 year-olds having the time of their lives. NOT like they were playing the same damn song for the thousandth time. Mick was warm, gracious, cheerful, and unrelentingly energetic. Talkative enough to get a glimpse of the person without boring anyone. Talked about playing in Reynolds Coliseum (also NC State campus) fifty years ago. Pretty cool.

Lisa Fischer was pretty amazing and it was fun seeing Chuck and Karl Denson again (have enjoyed Karl's Tiny Universe band a couple times).

Moonlight Mile and Shine a Light were welcome and unexpected songs and very well done. All songs exceeded my expectations. It was a happy and FUN show. Couldn't ask for more.

Yeah I see you also got Let's Spend The Night Together and Out Of Control and B@tch. Finally jettisoned that Doom And Gloom for at least one show. We also got Moonlight Mile in Milwaukee. Mick's energy is incredible. Glad to hear you got a great show.

No idea how Raleigh show compares, but we had a blast. Wife loved the frequent interaction with the guys. I was blown away by how much unpretentious, unguarded, childlike fun they seemed to be having.

I missed that Doom and Gloom was in heavy rotation and Let's Spend the Night Together was not. Out of Control surprised me, but way exceeded expectations. Jagger was a hilarious NUT on that one.
