What do you guys think about this power conditioner?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001JJB2GM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2DFJ5O82U7G45&coliid=I3CM9JYCYGKKHG

I plan to plug my preamp and sources into this. I have heard that even if a power conditioner is large enough the power amp should not be plugged into it. FYI, I already have a 20 amp dedicated circuit for my stereo.

What do you guys think?

Have zero experience with Tripp-lite products so can't comment on that. However anything with voltage regulation would be desirable....especially if you live in an older building or have experienced fluctuations in line voltage.

For those living in more up to date dwellings, line voltage usually doesn't have that much fluctuations. If your area is new with constant building going on, you may experience some just due to that nature. Mine has been pretty rock solid over the years so when it came time for a new power conditioner, voltage regulation wasn't on the top of the wants list. I like PS Audio products for power conditioners, quiet as a church mouse but many out there are capable also.

As a FYI I own the Furman PL Plus Series II which IIRC is an older version of that one. I plug my Parasound HCA-1200ii into it for surge protection as well as my pre-amp.

    It functions well for that.

The computer/dac/monitor all plug into a APCH15 which does a better job at filtering/voltage regulation, etc...

However if you dont need that and just want some surge protection, checkout the Furman AC-215a. I run one of those for my security system to make sure I dont fry it with a lightning strike.

Would a voltage regulator be a better choice? Read that this one is bullet proof at a good price but some say that it is noisy (hum?).

^That unit is quite nice and I know people running it on this forum and others.

I'd give it a try if you can get it for the right price.

One guy was running a Parasound HCA-3500 off it with no problems, that on top the rest of his audio gear.

Yes, I've know folks to run that LCR2400 for their audio stuff, and my buddy was running his HCA-3500 off it as well.

I debated buying one for my 2 channel, but then I found a APC H15 for 80bucks, and the Furman I bought for 40. I'm at half the price of the LCR and have what I need, so I didnt end up buying one.

I also debated buying it to run my B&K 200.5 and Dayton SA1000 amps off since its power handling is high enough to handle those with my HT gear, and my APC H15 didnt like the B&K and Dayton running on it.

For now I plugged those two items into the wall and am looking at alternative solutions to protect just them (like a Furman AC-215a) while leaving the APC H15 for the rest of my gear.

In case you are looking at the Furman AC-215's there are 2 model numbers. The AC-215, and the AC-215a. All the 215a model adds is that after turning off due to high voltage/surge, it automatically resets and turns back on. The 215 requires you to manually hit the reset button to get things to turn back on. For amps, not that big a deal IMHO. I bought my 215a for like 99 bucks back in the day. I wouldn't pay the 200 they normally cost as the Tripp Lite isnt much more and has a lot more outlets lol.

IIRC recently @zingo mentioned the LCR2400, forget if he owned or owns one.

Thanks endersShadow; your input is greatly appreciated.

I have been resurrecting my system this year and have yet to provide protection of any kind. After the lighting storm the other night I decided to get off my butt and protect my investment. Also the recent thread about differences in how our systems sound at different times of the day got me thinking about cleaner power.

The Tripp Lite gets very high marks from long time users and fits my 19" rack. The only negative that I can find is that someone said something about audible hum in a quiet room (others said it was quiet).

I am going to give it a try. I can get it from Amazon for $261 delivered and if I don't like it they will take it back no questions asked.

I have had really good luck with Panamax, I run in my home theater. The old 1000+ took a lightning hit and saved my gear. With its lifetime warranty, Panamax sent me a newer M5400, because they no longer make the 1000+.

I run a PS Audio Quintessence for my main 2-channel rig. It has more than just spike and surge protection. The filtering helps to clean up the local power.

I did own the LCR2400, and it's a beast. It was designed for server rooms and the like, but the voltage stabilization works very well, and it's rated for a 20A draw; it does have a bit of a transformer hum when your ear is near it. My father-in-law uses only Tripp Lite products in their electronics lab, so I think it's a matter of well designed industrial products being good enough to use for home stereo.

The only reason I sold my LCR2400 is I got my hands on a Furman Elite 20 which has a an internal capacitor bank for instantaneous current draws up to 55A.

I installed the LCR2400 this weekend. Basically it is built like a tank. No issues and fit my rack just fine. The 12ft long 20 amp power cord is nice.

It looks good in the rack but I think it would look better if the Tripp Lite logo was not so large and the handles were black.

It is really nice to have plenty of outlets (12 on the back).

I plugged the amp, preamp and computer into the Isobar isolated filter bank outlets and plugged all the remaining components into the remaining outlets.

My concern about hum is not a problem for me; about the same as my Hafler 500. I did notice that I could cut the hum by more than half by placing my hand on the sheet metal top. At some time in the future I will Dynamat the inside.

I don't know if I am having some kind of placebo affect, just plain crazy or something else is improving with burn-in but I swear my system sounds better. I noticed it right away. The image has more depth front to back and is more transparent like a veil has been lifted. Mids and highs are smoother. Overall very pleasing to listen to.

I have listened to it for three days now and all I can say is it is a keeper.

Congrats man, glad you like. You can probably chalk up the new sound to lack of noise or reduced noise in your signal. Most don't even know it's there until it's gone. Many assume it's simply part of a recording too. In any event, it now enables you to hear the music a tad more clean and clear....and that's a good thing.

Thor has a hammer maybe you can borrow.....if your worthy.

You really worried about lightning strikes ? Chances are about as good as winning the lottery. Put a lightning rod in and redirect into the ground. I'm thinking having your mother in-law up on the roof with a 5 iron and some heavy 8 gauge wire going from her leg to the neighbors house. Could work....maybe not.

Now that it is really hot I have been noticing when I get home from work that the low voltage light is on. Usually goes off around 7-8. Checked the outlet with a meter and got 116 vac. Forgot to check the Tripplite to see if it corrected the voltage. Will check next time it is in a low voltage condition.

Yeah, mine stay on fairly regularly when my AC unit is on, or if I'm vacuuming so I'm used to seeing it. Not that big a deal as its never a massive swing but worth noting.

It also pings for a bit when I turn my B&K and Dayton amps on after sitting idle for a couple hours...
