Just bought my first turntable!

Just dipping my toes into the whole vinyl thing. Girl friend inherited a nice collection of vinyl from her dad, so we Picked up a teac tn300 today. Has built in phone stage so I can use it with my benchmark dac1-pre. Super excited! And is a gorgeous little player. Sounds good too. What do you guys think? Not bad for entry level.

    [whistle] wow, that TEAC looks NICE!
    I like that you can put your own cables on it and that it also has USB in case you want to connect to a computer for recording or something. if it didn't come with software, you can grab Audacity. it's kinda neat.

    You nailed it Scott! Got the cherry. It is really, really, really nice. I have to say Initial impressions, this thing is very susceptible to noise. I need to get that figured out. You tap the table its on, which is solid, and weighed down by a couple mono blocks, you can here it through the speakers. So far I love it! We have some pinkfloyd, tom petty, fleet wood Mac, the doors, just to name a few. We have about 150. This hobby is serious trouble. Almost more expensive than my summer hobby... Cars lol!

    When I got my TT I put it on a table and had the same results. I have it on a shelf now, off the floor and you can jump up and down in front of it with no noise at all. So if you can do a wall shelf that's the way to go.

    Thanks for the tip, even my girlfriend walking around caused it to skip a bit. She's super excited, she loves the theater, but also listens to her Bose sound link mini with a nice two channel rig right under her nose. It's nice she's as pumped as I am about audio now.

    How are you liking it? Do you have a record cleaner or anything? I'm thinking about getting the spin clean myself.

    Nothing to Clean them yet. I did however get this lint roller looking thing thrown in. Super sticky and is washable. I've always seen brushes being used. I will say it works pretty damn good, gets the disc good and dust free. After some hours of listening, I'm really impressed. It sounds great, no pops or cracks in the sound. Just clean, neutral, laid back music. It hands down beats my oppo with an sacd (not as forward). Forgive me as I'm new to this, I find it hard to explain, but it sounds good to My ears! Doesn't have that digital edge... If that makes sense.

    I checked out your TT when you weren't looking and it doesn't have a ground wire, as it has a phono amp built into it so the ground is not needed! but I like that cherry finish.

    -- but it would likely benefit from one if used sans preamp. Basically all that is needed is a piece of wire from a chassis ground somewhere on the tt to chassis ground on the preamp, integrated or receiver to which it is connected (not using the on-board preamp).

    So far I'm loving it! Had to pick up some new interconnects today, as I stole some from my theater to test the new tt. Got some Nordost heimdall 2 xlrs, from preamp to mono blocks and transferred by blue heavens to the tt. I'm smitten with this system!

    I was using audioquest Columbias. I got some Nordost heimdalls for a steal. Surprisingly the xlrs were half as quiet as the RCA Columbias. Turns out I had to crack open the benchmark and change some jumpers to achieve the desired volume level. I noticed quite a bit more detail with the Nordost cables. I do have some new MIT cables to try out as well. But I need some time with them to get a good feel. I've only had time with the new cables and tt this weekend. There has been a lot of tweaking, I'm sure I will get things just right over the next week or so.
