+1 sorry to see you're having these problems Polkieman and BlueBirdMusic. Drumminman, how have you avoided hear problems over the years? A number of drummers I used to work with all started having hearing problems around their late 30's. Most had been playing rock drums regularly for over 20 years by then. I think the lead guitarists always started have hearing issues in their twenties. Always reaching for that volume control to play over the drummer. I'm sure you know how that scenario runs.

Polkie2009, I spent more time for about 20-25 years on two other hobbies - sailing and golf thus avoiding much loud music.

I didn't listen to as much music as I did when my SDA 2B's were purchased new. The 2B's made a trip to the other side of Atlanta while I was in Myrtle Beach playing golf about 15 years ago. The wife moved out with them which is ironic since she really did not like them (size) when originally purchased.

Four or five years ago, my SDA obsession surfaced again, and I purchased 1A's followed by 1B's from Craigslist. I started going to live concerts again, and the rest is history.

You mentioned drummers and I thought of the fantastic drummer in Forgerty's band who really was showcased. LOUD! The ENT told me going to the live concerts would continue to affect my hearing. He suggested I wear the same type of ear plugs that are used on gun ranges. I have read that some meds can cause the tinnitus to occur.

Last year, I discussed upgrading my 2B's with westmassguy. Per his advice, I replaced the tweeters with the RD0194's (great improvement), but I am struggling making a decision with the caps, etc, because of the hearing loss.

Polkie2009, I may be just lucky. The loudest band I was in was a 3 piece blues band, and I always wore hearing protection. The group I play with now isn't that loud.

BlueBird, I suggest doing the upgrades. The new high quality caps/resistors/inductors will make improvements across the frequency range (not just highs), and probably improve imaging as well.

If you could hear the improvement from the tweeters, you will absolutely hear the improvement from the crossover upgrades.

Make sure whatever amp you are considering, it's a common ground amp.
