Hi
I'm about to upgrade my relatively basic receiver (Pioneer VSX920)
I've heard Audyssey MultiEq XT32 is very good....So looking at receivers with that feature, I've found on A4L the Onkyo TX-NR818 or the Marantz SR7008
The Marantz is more expensive ($750 vs $580)
The Marantz weight 27Lbs when the Onkyo is at 40Lbs. About watts, the Marantz is given at 125W and the Onkyo at 135W
What would be the best pick to match with my Polk speakers?

The Onkyo 818 is an excellent value. After that model Onkyo started removing features and weight from the 8xx series.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. What I am tryin to say is, is that the course of your life, well its changing, and you don't even see it- Forest Bondurant

I grabbed a denon avr-x4100w from accessories4less.com for $799. I love the xt32 version of Audyssey! I happen to run a separate amp, but I didn't when I initially set it up and it sounded great.

Yeah, The Onkyo seems to be a lot of AVR for the money
I like the look of the marantz though, but I'm not sure it's worth the price difference...

cant go wrong with either. if it was me making the buy I would get the Onkyo and add the Onkyo BD player. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/onkbdsp809/onkyo-bd-sp809-thx-certified-blu-ray-disc-player/1.htmlWhen I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

I was searching "TX-NR818 vs Marantz 7008", and found other references as well, such as Denon X4000 and 4520CI, Yamaha RX A2030, RX A3010, RX A2020, etc...All in the same price range at A4L
Any one much better than the others? Any specific one recommended (or not recommended) for RTi A5?

If you can do without HDMI, you will find a low cost Onkyo in the For Sale section here....shameless plug
-
I need HDMI, and also up-scaling from component to HDMI (for my daughter's Wii and PS2)
I will run 5.1, maybe add some "height" speakers if it makes sense
Not sure I will go 7.1 (not soon at least because of my room)
And I really want the Audyssey MultiEq32, I've heard it was really good
So basically, I'm looking for the "best bang for the buck" AVR....
Ultimate thing that would be a HUGE plus: a receiver that could run on 110V and 220V
But I think it's going to be hard to find...!!!

Like speakers and other audio equip...the one for you is a matter of subjective opinion. Modern tech, design, and, manufacturing has produced a marketplace full of competent affordable products... with tons of features. One really has to try different products to see which one is liked the best. Sometimes it can come down to the small differences that will influence the decision.
The RTi's have a pronounced sound with good efficiency and an easy load so most anything decent can drive them. However, once you get a full surround system connected an amp is always recommended to get the impact and clarity at near reference levels.
Don't rule out used as some good deals can be had. My unit that I PM'ed you about is a serious unit (even today).

Here is another nice used unit.

Find something used for $300-$500 you might even be able to find a 2-5 ch amp within your ~$800 budget.

I agree with the above post....try to swing a separate 5 channel with an AVR that will do the job. I never use most of the features on my Pioneer AVR. Unless you have a very large, dedicated HT room, I would not worry about 7.1 or height speakers....but thats just one opinion.

Should i consider an Atmos receiver or not?RTiA5 + CSiA4 + Jamo SW410E

I'd go to a theater that has Dolby Atmos and watch a movie first to get a feel for the experience to decide whether it is enough of an impact for you to want it.
Then you'll have to figure out if you have the space and layout to accommodate the 7 speakers, get an atmos capable avr, and then wait for enough titles to come out to make it worth it.
H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music. -
You're going to need more speakers. Just depends on what you want, your room and how far you want to go....5.1, 5.2, 7.1, 7.2, 9.1, 9.2, 10.2, etc.
IMO, put together a solid 5.1/5.2 with some power behind it. Then, expand from there. I say at least go listen to Atmos, TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc then decide.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2
