Can one cut away metal or do anything to a 6" x 9" enclosure to fit a 6 1/2" component speaker? I've now found out that's what I have in the back of the Civic - I had picked sedan in error instead of coupe on Crutchfield. If I can't go Polk I doubt I'm going to upgrade the darned thing. Argh.

Relax my friend. All is well.

Its pretty easy to fabricate an adapter plate to fit a 6 1/2 in a 6x9 hole. If youre not much of a fabricator then your local dealer can fix you one up for probably no more than $20. However the best deal is thru Crutchfield. If you buy a 6 1/2 from them and they list your ride as using 6x9s they will throw in an adapter plate free of charge. Cant beat that.

So all those motorcycle custom iron fabricator buddies I have are finally going to have an opportunity to help out a car guy like me. Sweet, that's what I wanted to know...laugh. Thanks. The Crutchfield guy was too fascinated by my "It's Polk or It's nothing" attitude to offer this as an option.

Ahhh, they were saying they wouldn't fit since they will raise the deck 0.005". Sheesh, what a way to lose an order for two pairs of speakers...laugh. Glad I called them back (again), they will work fine with the adapter Cody mentioned. Now, for the right amp.

2 pairs of db6500s... And an MM10 Enclosed Sub. Looking at 2 amps for sure. Leading contenders for my $400ish amplifier budget for both are the Phoenix Gold Tantrum 400.4 and Tantrum 500.2 @ SoundDomain.Com.

Sony CDX-MP70 Head and CDX-757MX changer. XM someday in the future.

No real loyalties to anyone except Polk... I have a bunch of Sony stuff in the house but have always been a stock audio guy in the car - this vehicle I'm not dropping $ on superchargers and suspension components like I did on the Cobra...laugh.

    Any thoughts?

You cant beat that Phoenix Gold deal. Those are excellent amps and are regularly aroun $500 so to snag one for $200 is awesome.

Right on. I like the idea of just being able to buy another 500.2 if I wanna get a second sub when I yank all this out of the Civic and put it in another car someday. A little more wiring, wtf. I guess I'll start ordering junk Monday so the money can burn a hole in my pocket another couple days.

All this to hear Tom Araya scream a little louder.

    F'ing A.

rofl...wanting to blow speakers is a reason to buy them...

    So to speak...

It is already written that Reign in Blood is the test CD. If I can stay in the car for the whole 28 minutes, well...it must not be loud enough.

Especially during the blazing fast double bass right after the guitar solo in Angel of Death! Thats enough thumpin to stop your heart!

I had just started playing drums not long before I heard that album. Lombardo was doing **** I didnt even think was possible. Literally! I though he had his recording speeded up or something. Nobody could play that fast!

You should hear Testement's "The Gathering". Lombardo plays drums on that album and its unbelievable!

Right on. I'm looking forward to getting Steve Harris back out there on bass as well. I think there's a gold version of Number of the Beast around here somewhere. Lombardo. He's just 1/10th of an inch in front of Vinnie Paul. Damn, that reminds me. CD#2's gotta be Far Beyond Driven. Devastating.

I went with the 600.4 - wtf is another $40. That and the 500.2 for $440. What a steal. 2 pairs of db6500s. The MM10. 58 patch cables and 9 miles of speaker wire.

Only $500 and 50% over budget, which actually isn't bad for me...laugh.

Check out my all time favorite band Dream Theater's latest CD, "Train of Thought". Very heavy and extremely complex music. Mike Portnoy is the baddest drummer on the planet and John Petrucci is simply a master of guitar. Even better than Alex Skolnik!

You should really consider goign over budget a little more and getting the Momo speakers. A guy on another thread said it best. "Youll never regret buying a better speaker", and the Momo is one of the best on the market in my opinion.
