My Monitor 7's that were almost sold on Craigslist ...

New member, first post, didn't even know what Monitor 7's were.
Our son purchased these from a Goodwill Store in 1996 for $20. Rosewood cabinets in decent shape, good grills, etc. He gave them to me about ten years ago & they've been the main speakers in my workshop. Sound quality, especially lately, seemed not so good so I took them off the shelves, cleaned them up & took photos for Craigslist. At the time I didn't know anything about them except the Polk Audio name on the grill & that the serial numbers are preceded by 7.
Found lots on info on this forum & decided to rebuild the crossovers instead of selling the speakers. Michael Percy (percyaudio.com) was mentioned as a source for caps & resistors - an email got a quick response including recommended components at three price levels. Decided on Mills resistors, a 10uF MultiCap PPMF2 paralleled with a 2uF PPMF2 (to produce 12 uF total) & a 33 uF Aeon. The difference is night and day, cymbals are clearly heard that weren't heard before, solid bass, etc.
The resistors in the first speaker were what was expected, 2.7 & 4.5 ohms & a brownish color. The resistors in the second speaker looked newer, bright white with values of 2.7 & 2.7. I know nothing about crossovers but have to guess that this caused an issue.
I'd originally planned to sell these old speakers & buy a pair of $79 Chinese bookshelf's on Amazon. The information on this forum kept me from making that mistake & I'm grateful for that.

Welcome, as most here know already, I also own a pair of vinyl wrapped '78 rosewood 7s. I got them yesterday and already Dynamatted them for that fuller sound and no ringing of the cabinets. Your decision to mod them is a good one and you will have those speakers for another 20 years. Not going to the extent of my 2Bs but yeah I like them and they like the Adcom power . Good luck, visit more often.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Congrats and welcome, @PrecisionWorks . That's one model I really wish I had experienced more fully. Have fun with the crossovers.
