I lucked up on a couple of Polk Monitor 7B's at a local Thrift Shop and paid $4 for the pair. They did need a (1)tweeter and a (1)6-1/2" midbass driver. But wow this was a great deal. They now sound so good that it would be hard for me to sell them for less than $175-$200 dollars. They just sound great, and I've had several different decent to good quality speakers over the years. I'm sold on polk and my next speaker will be an older model Polk such as the Monitor 10 or 12 or hopefully one of the SDA's.
Just my opinion-but I think lots of people whom have owned Polks feel the same way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Mitchell

I have listened to the 7's and agree they sound fantastic. I have a pair of RTA8T's and a pair of 15TL's(soon coming). I think vintage Polks sound great and fun to own.

Vintage speakers are fantastic, you just never know what you will find. Have fun with them!CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I have both the Monitor 7C's and the Monitor 10's (series II).
I like the 7C's. They are a good speaker. I LOVE the 10's. They are a fabulous speaker. The CRS+'s that I own are similar to the 10's... but, they sound better yet. The SDA3.1TL's (that are stored in my closet) sound louder, fuller, but not really better. Personally, my favorite is the CRS+. Those are a way cool speaker in every regard. They image (SDA) better than any other Polk that I've heard. Wonderful sound.
I also have the RT800i's and, honestly, I've never really listened to them critically. They have always served as my rear surrounds. Though, I am certain they would do good up front also. The CS400i is a great center. I am ambivalent about the PSW650 as a sub. Its alright - not great though.
Well, there you have it. My personal review of speakers that I currently own. If I were to downsize, I'd probably keep the 10's and the CRS+'s and let the 3.1TLS and the 7C's go. Just my personal preferences.

Ron,
which speakers are you using for your fronts? how do they work with your CS400i? The RT800i's would be a perfect match for that center. I'm sure you know that already.. but I love to point out the obvious some times.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

rskarvan,
I'm thinking of putting together a third rig with either the Monitor 7s or the 10s. What are the tonal differences between the two? Is it just better and deeper bass with the 10s but the mids and highs are about the same?
Russ, if you read this I'd appreciate your input too since you own both (I think).
Anybody else that has heard both can chime in as well.
thanks,

I have direct experience with the Mon10B and the Mon7...and if I was to pick one, it would be the Mon7. This was Russ' pair in Texas, and they sounded fantastic.
I don't know if every pair will be as original or exciting as those, but they were a real tweat to listen to.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Just asking opinions here, which I respect opinions from people on here very much. I originally posted this thread about I love my 7b's. Now question. I've had an Onkyo 595 rec and 4-Polk RTi28's for front main and rear surrounds along with a Polk CSi30 center and PSW350 sub. I really like the sound from the 7b's and was wondering what you all thought about using the 7b's for my main fronts, but still using the rti28's for surround? In my bedroom/computer room I have a Harman Kardon 680i and was thinking maybe using the pair of rti28's for it along with a subwoofer for the bedroom/computer room. Any idea's on tonal quality or anything else?
Would this work ok? I really want to think it would sound great, but like to hear opinions on this.
Thanks,
Mitchell

The monitor 10 series 2 sounds much better/fuller than the 7C. The monitor 7C sounds like a single small driver in a big box. The 10's sound like a very loud capable speaker. The sound-stage is simply bigger on the 10's.
The reason I have my 800i's doing surround-duty is simply because the 10's wouldn't fit very well the way my room is arranged. I've never really noticed much of a timbre problem on the front sound-stage. No, its not a perfect match. But, the bass from the 10's is so wonderful that it offsets the tweeter match.
