Great unit, great construction, soundfields, hook ups. Etc. Everything is great.

The remote...it sucks.

    After your dad's outlaw breaks-in in a couple of weeks, I think that a lot of folks here may be interested in a NAD preamp vs. Outlaw preamp comparison in two channel.

    NAD is readily available in most stores locally but Outlaw can only be purchased new from them. For this reason, a lot of folks make the purchase just on great reviews from other people (without listening).

    I for one, have never heard the Outlaw stuff, but am familiar with the NAD sound.

    Just for kicks I think it may be something very valuable and of pertinence to the forum and you would make a great contribution if you can enter this with an open mind. Perhaps even do some blindfold tests with your dad.

    It's up to my Dad if he wants to do that. I could bring my preap down here but I don't feel like unplugging everything. The 2 channel with the Outlaw is stellar.

    It has excellent surround sound too, easy to setup. There is a crossover for each speaker! Heck yeah, thats what I need.

    The remote...is so messed up, there is no way to seperate components, like Video 3 is also cable, so when you hit it, it switches the TV to Video 3, and the Outlaw to Cable. Now, unless you have the cable ran through video 3. This won't exactly work. We have the cable and dvd player ran with component cables, and there basically is no video 3.

    With component you have DVD and Video 1. Oh well, it really is quite a pain.

    Overall, Outlaw is pretty awesome gear. They seem to hold the same qualities SVS does. Bang for the buck.

    This summer, I will bring my NAD preamp over here for 2 channel testings. Don't see why he wouldnt want to try it.

    Cool deal Trey. Outlaw and NAD are in the same price class so it would be a good showdown as long as everything were identical i.e. speakers used, interconnects, source, etc. Just swap out the preamp. Yeah, I know its a big pain but good research.

    Both gear are great mid-fi equipment and compete with each other so some folks might be interested if one sounds more detailed than the other etc.

    Ah the remote thing is a royal pain. I read EZC's comments on the Harmony SST-659 and bought one at Best Buy for $200. Its pretty cool. You go online and tell it what gear you have (even had my Jolida cdp in the library) and you set up activities. Then on the remote you just press the button "listen to a cd" and it turns on the gear you want to listen to a cd. Press "watch a movie" and it turns on the tv, dvd player, and receiver and sets all the inputs where they need to be. Pretty cool. I guess one can do this with macros and cheaper remotes, but I tried several and there was always a quirk with one or the other. The Harmony does it all pretty much errorless. Works for me!
