The Darbee makes a pretty pronounced difference in video quality.
We did side by side comparisons during the Central Iowa Home Theater Crawl and it was pretty impressive what the extra $100 nets you."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."
"Unwad those panties and have a good time man. We're all here to help each other, no matter how it might appear." DSkip -
Yeah for the 100 extra the D edition is the way to go, just don't go full pop with the Darbee when you use it.Home Theater

I think I have to have one of these. Too bad it doesn't do Amazon instant video but lately Amazon doesn't do Amazon instant video!

It never ends, I would need a Roku stick lol.

No. Strict price structures. Pay full price or buy used.
Yeah I can get 5% cash back from Amazon %^) and then pay like 10% sales tax %^(
-
Oppo 103D is on the way now! There would be a couple of pairs of speakers too if there was a FF deal going!

I'm in video production and I spend a huge chunk of my time color correcting and grading raw footage from all types of cameras, including many of the ones used on the big screen.
Having owned the 105D and having the role as my company's in-house colorist, I can confidently say that all Darbee is doing is adding more contrast and saturation. I can create the Darbee look in a couple of minutes. If you like the effect, that's fine. I prefer to watch movies and see colors as the colorist intended so I kept it OFF.
Edit: Oops, didn't want to throw water on your fire. I have the 103 and I love itPost edited by audiocr381ve on -

Audiocr381ve has dishonored himself and dishonored the Polkies. I have tried to help him. But I have failed. I have failed because YOU have not helped me. YOU people have not given Audiocr381ve the proper motivation! So, from now on, whenever Audiocr381ve **** up, I will not punish him! I will punish all of YOU! And the way I see it ladies, you owe me for ONE BDP-103D! NOW GET ON YOUR FACES!
Uh sorry.

Audiocr381ve of course I was just kidding but after looking at Pacific Rim (ugh) a few times with the Darby on and off I think it gives it almost a 3D effect. Maybe I could have gotten the same effect noodling with the settings on the TV but it sure is worth the 100 bucks not to have to. Now if I only had something worth watching lol. This is the blue ray that some dorky kid told me that it would be a good test disc. He was right, it does have all off the effects to evaluate AV but boy is it a miserable movie lol. It really reminds me of the 4K demos that I saw running in BB.

Go get 12 angry men - the original. Should really do that darbee justice.
-
Another plus is everything loads way faster than what I was using.

Hehe. Well, I got @audiocr381ve 's Darby thingie and I LOVE what it did to my, embarrassingly sh!tty video on the Sharp 80-whatever-will-never-buy-Sharp-****-again TV. Love. It.

Darby makes a difference, man!
Haha I like you guys. Funny stuff here. Just to clarify, I was specifically talking about the Darbee mode and not Oppo's video processing which is good no doubt.
Darby absolutely does make a difference but all of the marketing behind it is absolutely bogus. If you want things more saturated, more contrasty, and sharper; look no further than the TV's built in tools for adjusting those parameters. No professional colorist in the world is using Darbee tech to make their work pop because they can do the same thing by draggin a few sliders. It would be easy to demonstrate.
