Monitor 11 Foam Replacement

I'm replacing the old crumbling acoustic foam on my monitor 11's. Do I cover the entire length of the port under the speaker with acoustic foam(see attached photo)?
Or do I leave a 2-3" gap on the front and the back of the port much like how the original foam was placed under the speaker? My concern is if I place the foam like in the photo that this will cause a problem with air flow and the sound. Thanks for your help.

Do it exactly like the original with the gaps.Political Correctness'.........defined
